PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING.

This thread is not for discussions. Post ONLY factual information.

To provide a comprehensive list of problems encountered, I would suggest that each post lists only one issue at a time.

Provide details of problem  as concisely as possible.

Operating system, machine used and relevant software. i.e. Macbook/ PC/tablet, Windows XP/ iOS7 etc, Safari/Internet Explorer/Chrome inc version No.

Please do not enter into discussions such as "I've had/not had this problem" as this will detract from the objectivity of the thread. Hopefully this thread may assist the IT department in finding where "all the bodies are buried".

PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING.

Hi everyone,

Thank you to you all for your feedback and patience., I have an update on duplicate discussions.

As you are aware, a lot of the issues with accessing discussions are occurring due to duplicate discussions. The project team have been looking at a solution to reduce the amount of duplicates we are getting - both discussions and reviews - as we know how frustrating this is, making the forum difficult to view and navigate. Part of the issue is that when a new discussion is created the submit button does not 'grey' or 'freeze' so if the page is loading it looks like it's not been submitted and as such the creator clicks on the submit button again (I've done this myself) and as such a duplicate discussion is posted at the same time as the original. The discussions then creates a duplicate URL so if you click on one you might get directed to the other, or get error messages.

To solve part of the issue, the project team are going to be 'freezing' the submit button so that when a new discussion is created and the page holds, if the creator clicks submit again then this will not create another discussion. This should hopefully help with a lot of the issues we are experiencing as the duplicates will no longer appear. This is due to be implemented in the next couple of weeks. There is another part of this problem too - to ensure unique URLs are created to any duplicate discussions and this is also being investigated and I hope to be able to give you an update on this soon.

Thanks Rowena, your response is appreciated. Hope we'll see an improvement soon.

When I post using Chrome on my Windows PC as soon as I press the reply button it always greys out and can't be pressed again? My biggest issue is that the forum is so slow the post just sits there and does nothing! Whilst we obviously need to sort out the double posting I would have thought that we might not have so many problems if the forum was more responsive.

Regarding the slowness yesterday evening, appalling is an understatement. Was the site being worked on? Or is that a state secret 😉?

Edit was using a Samsung S5 phone Samsung Internet connection. Only device that works at a decent speed on this site.

Also again this morning I'm having good issues. The thread doesn't give a dialogue box for several minutes, status bar hangs very near the end for ages. Is it just that thread?

Also new double thread from JVB on BBMF, comes up twice with same time on the latest discussions page. Poster certainly isn't new and knows about the slowness of the site.

Hi David,

The reply already greys out but for new discussions the submit doesn't currently, which is why we have the incident.

I'm really sorry you are experiencing issues with the speed of the website. I have reported this to be investigated.

Rowena it greys out and hangs with blue line round it even if you've been logged out. So you hang for ages unless you guess you've been logged out!

Thanks for the update Rowena. However, this has been going on for a long time. On the face of it freezing the submit button does not seem a difficult fix. Why so long in getting it implemented? Also why could this have not been done before? As even if it was not the only cause, it would certainly have removed a significant source.

Hi SteveL, I'm so sorry for the delay in fixing this and appreciate your frustration. We had an issue with reviews which needed to be prioritised as some sites were missing their reviews and others were having difficulties with reviews being submitted. This issue has now been resolved. I will keep you updated on fixes and I'm so sorry for the frustration the issues are causing members. Please be assured I am doing my utmost to get these resolved and really appreciate members support and feedback.

Rowena

I see what you mean about the difference between adding a post to an existing thread and starting a new one. I seem to have been lucky in not posting a duplicate thread.

The speed thing can only be down to the quality/capacity of the servers. Am I wrong in thinking the Club outsourced its servers some time ago? The strange thing is that it seems to affect the forum side more than elsewhere. Even the stories seem to be quicker and I don't recall having a particular problem with the main website for booking etc.

This depends on which parts of the web site you happen to be accessing. Two nights ago I couldn't access site details beyond the first two lines on the details page, the pages did eventually load but I had time to spare not good for anyone attempting to book in the evening. The slow speeds are affecting nearly all parts of the web site.
