Arrival times

just booked a few weeks at the blackpool south club site .But it now seems that they have altered the arrival time from 12 to 1 o-clock I can go along with that as its a very narrow lane outside so no room to queue with out causeing a traffic jam . My gripe (complaint) is that sites don,t enforce the leave time we have seen people in caravans leaving at 4pm at blackpool and believe it or not 2 leaving southport site at 6.30pm (caravans) you can,t tell if motorhomes are leaving or just nipping out so come on club sites lets have some rules everybody has to stick to in fairness to all members.

well for me

no - I actually have an Italian driving license

no - I even talk and chat to people from Scotlandsmile

For me 'over there' has to mean sun and lots of it and maybe because of the heat doing very little, it is a different way of holidaying from over here, usually sitting by a pool with an (all inclusive) pool bar. If we want to see a city or area it's usually done in cooler months from a hotel.

Either way I see no fun or advantage in driving two three days to get all that. I like to take a plane, sit read eat in more comfort than a car (either driving or as a passenger) and do it in the shortest time possible.

Travelling to places by driving abroad is lost time to me personally. I know there are people who think the journey is part of the holiday and that’s great for them, but it’s not for me and one motorway looks pretty much like another to me whatever the country.

But perhaps you have missed out another possible reason – cost?

I have started another thread in Caravan and motorhome  chat as suggested.

We also take foreign holidays by plane to exotic locations etc but these are typically of a 10 -20 day duration. We wouldn't want to spend 6 - 8 wks in a hotel, nor could we justify the costs,  so I don't believe it is one or the other. Caravanning in the UK is nice but visiting previous destinations over and over again is not as exciting ( to us)  as exploring a totally different area.

Just interested but why do some people choose not to tour abroad, is it the fear of driving on the right or just xenophobia. It can't be the distances involved as some on here seem to drive very long distances to the opposite ends of the country.

Posted on 15/03/2018 14:20

Xenophobia could be the reason.

For years we used to cross to Europe from Scotland with the Motorhome.  We really enjoyed discovering new places of interest, meeting locals and visitors from different countries and enjoying their company. --- I have yet to see any examples of the "Little Englander" attitude over there among caravanners or Motorhomers . ---Only time we ever saw examples of that attitude, was when UK Bus tours arrived at and disgorged their passengers at places of interest.

Err, K, did you not see that Swifty has started another thread on this subject? It must be something else you've missed.

Of course, people who don't live their all lives posting on forums, will not have time to read every bit of postings as they happen. For all those people like myself, who pop on for a couple of minutes occasionally just to see if there's anything interesting and mostly find nothing of interest so get on with our lives it's not a problem.

Others obviously spend all their waking hours on forums -- So will be aware of every post made and enjoy showing how much of their life they fritter away on forums. surprised

Spare a thought for poor old,  K, Tinny. He's probably still reeling from the shock of having been wrong about something yesterday! cool

And as only an occasional user of the forum, he may not realise that clicking on his avatar and looking at his profile shows just how much he packs in to those couple of minutes every now and again! wink

thanks to M I see that when you mean you pop on for a couple of minutes occasionally you mean that you personally pop on occasionally each hour! Five times between 2 and 3 pm today, or even six times in 62 minutes.
