Arrival times

just booked a few weeks at the blackpool south club site .But it now seems that they have altered the arrival time from 12 to 1 o-clock I can go along with that as its a very narrow lane outside so no room to queue with out causeing a traffic jam . My gripe (complaint) is that sites don,t enforce the leave time we have seen people in caravans leaving at 4pm at blackpool and believe it or not 2 leaving southport site at 6.30pm (caravans) you can,t tell if motorhomes are leaving or just nipping out so come on club sites lets have some rules everybody has to stick to in fairness to all members.

The rebellious bit is interpretive! I view the arrival and departure times as sensible guidance, not "thou shalt not". Therefore, if I am on a none busy site, plenty of spare pitches all around at 11.30 am, I might ask if we can take our time leaving and packing up, and not scurry off a relatively empty site bang on 12 noon? If the Warden says no, then we would leave at 12 noon, but, as yet, we havent come across any Warden so unreasonable. If I was on Rowntree Park at a weekend, the question wouldnt even get asked, common sense and a glance at the bookings status says staying late is impossible.

I suppose its just being prepared to ask for something that seems quite reasonable rather than being a rebel in this instance. But asking might seem unfair to some, I dont know?laughing

yes agree again, and I have said that long warden's discretion reign. I have no objection to asking but those that do as they want without?

having experienced both the more relaxed Continental style of arrivals and the Club rigid system, I much prefer a site where a (say) morning arrival isn't greeted with 'the rule book' and a turning away.

when we tour, over there, we arrive when we arrive....sometimes early, sometimes very late, depending on many factors, but one of those is not clock watching.

as stated, I stick to 'the rules' when using club sites, which does/can result in plans revolving around the clock, but would happily phone ahead to request an earlier arrival if that fitted my plans...

the fact that other sites in the uk operate a more rigid arrivals timing system doesn't make it invalid to compare systems from other sites, wherever they might be...and it's not just arrival times where site processes at other organisations or locations could be learned from...

whether we label these as best practice (or dismiss the term pedantically) it matters not......the point is that any organisation should be constantly checking out the competition (in all locations) to ensure that they are delivering the best service at the best possible prices...

re: arrival times, the club could certainly learn a bit about flexibility in this area...

it just happens that the sites I've used that operate in a much more flexible way (even with a full site but a fair turnover each day) seem far less crowded (generally one arrival looking for a pitch at any one time, usually on foot), so has less vehicles moving on site, especially all at the same time, as can be the case when the CC barrier goes up...and has no queue of vehicle blocking access (or exit) roads....

i can see why, on certain CC sites with long narrow access roads, segregation can be good....though you'll never stop MH entering or leaving when they choose...but there must be very many sites where entry isn't an issue and timings could be easily relaxed......

perhaps a good thing to trial.....?

In these cases, it seems very petty to hold up arrivals until a 'certain time' but I'm sure a lot of this is to do with tasks/resources which is another issue....as was said earlier, tail and dog comes to mind.

hi BB,  You suggest a trial... but the trial of 9 am. arrivals at Edinburgh and 10 am. at Coniston  have been running for years without causing problems. There are lots of other sites where those early arrivals would work well.

So (a) " if I don't turn up ..." sounds a bit like speculative  booking to me, David, you know, "depriving" someone else of that pitch

(b) how is "it may be lost" different from "non refundable"?

and (c) "we get the pitch we asked for or something similar" sounds like you're paying a reservation fee for something you might end up not getting anyway!

Well, it seems to suit you David and that's fair enough - at the end of the day that's all that really matters to any of us isn't it?

But I still fail to see the relevance to the subject raised in this particular thread.

thanks, ET, I had heard of those arrangements....I wonder why we don't hear of any severe congestion issues at those sites?

obviously, something must be different (staffing, mindset?) to have implemented (and retained) a completely different (better?) system to the majority of other club sites.

im sure someone with far more experience of these sites might be able to put their finger on it.

I am leaving this discussion  now , I have again been naive  in  thinking  you  ask questions with any interest  in the answer  when I should have known from our previous  discussions  it is a trawl  for snippets to use in a point scoring exercise.

Am off shortly and when we are driving along empty roads in the wide open spaces of Castile  under blue skies and sourunded by snow capped mountains I might possibly thank my lucky stars I am not doing my caravanning in a muddy field or parked by a white peg  but I probably wonthe.
