Arrival times

just booked a few weeks at the blackpool south club site .But it now seems that they have altered the arrival time from 12 to 1 o-clock I can go along with that as its a very narrow lane outside so no room to queue with out causeing a traffic jam . My gripe (complaint) is that sites don,t enforce the leave time we have seen people in caravans leaving at 4pm at blackpool and believe it or not 2 leaving southport site at 6.30pm (caravans) you can,t tell if motorhomes are leaving or just nipping out so come on club sites lets have some rules everybody has to stick to in fairness to all members.

I think that's the third or fourth time you've posted that same picture, et, and it does indeed look idyllic. But It might give those of us who choose not to tour abroad a better impression of things if you'd used pictures of different sites each time. undecided

Just interested but why do some people choose not to tour abroad, is it the fear of driving on the right or just xenophobia. It can't be the distances involved as some on here seem to drive very long distances to the opposite ends of the country.

Why not start a thread on that subject 'Swifty', rather than take over this one.

BTW, I do tour abroad.

EDIT: Oh well, perhaps this thread has run it's course ............. again undecided

We have been there done it, but at our age now when we go "over there"we let the train take the strain,so easy now as hop on the train at St Pancras International and it is much cheaper for some of uscool

When we were younger (and campers!) We toured Europe quite a bit, albeit only towing a little trailer.

Nowadays, we choose to tour Europe more comfortably, using hotels and either hiring a car or joining an organised tour.

I'm quite relaxed about folk choosing to tour extensively in Europe - just don't appreciate the oft given impression, possibly unintended, that those who do are somehow superior to those of us who choose to do our van touring in the UK. smile

Anyway, that's something probadly better discussed on a separate thread, n'est ce pas?  wink

Taking the Edinburgh site, it is an interesting point. Is it to do with staffing levels? Out of curiosity I would like to know why a couple of sites within the network are differently timed for arrivals.

Posted on 15/03/2018 11:46

As Steve said, Edinburgh has a large entrance area and the road outside is ok to queue on if necessary.  The turnover on the site is probably quite large and, with a lot of non local visitors, people are often leaving earlier as they have a longer journey ahead.

Coniston also has a very large arrival area, even larger than Edinburgh,  but a poor road outside, so you could not queue on the road, though with the space inside I would think it a problem that would never arise.

But the staff have to be manning reception continuously from 9.00am perhaps to admit units, so do they employ extra staff to fulfill the duties required to run the site if reception is manned (or womanned if that is a word undecidedinnocent)?

... and if so, cannot this be done at more sites that have a larger turnover!

I'm not bothered either way, but would like to know why there is a variance.

Why not ask the question in another thread as I am sure hat there are a multitude of different reasons

Touring with our dogs is the main reason we don't tour abroad. Not bothered about taking them, where we would choose to go would be too hot, (they overheat sometimes in Cornwall), we wouldn't take them on ferries either. So we are happy touring here, but will eventually either fly drive, cruise or do some train based tours, not just in Europe either.

well for me

no - I actually have an Italian driving license

no - I even talk and chat to people from Scotlandsmile

For me 'over there' has to mean sun and lots of it and maybe because of the heat doing very little, it is a different way of holidaying from over here, usually sitting by a pool with an (all inclusive) pool bar. If we want to see a city or area it's usually done in cooler months from a hotel.

Either way I see no fun or advantage in driving two three days to get all that. I like to take a plane, sit read eat in more comfort than a car (either driving or as a passenger) and do it in the shortest time possible.

Travelling to places by driving abroad is lost time to me personally. I know there are people who think the journey is part of the holiday and that’s great for them, but it’s not for me and one motorway looks pretty much like another to me whatever the country.

But perhaps you have missed out another possible reason – cost?
