How can we liven this section up?

We have simply got to liven this section up somehow!

It used to be quite lively, but now its just terminal boredom!  We have such riveting threads such as 'What are you all up to today?" ( As if anyone really cares ) and "What is it like for you?)"  discussing the weather Oh great!

The trouble is that if someone just even dares to pen something the slightest bit interesting it gets shunted into the backwoods where it probably won't be seen.

Suggestions please!

No Forum will be 'everything to everyone' for every change that pleases some an equal amount will see it as a bad move & complainSad Tip-take the bits you like, skip over the bits you don't. . . .It makes for a less stressful life. To those who are not happy unless they're unhappy-rejoice, your unhappiness is really making you happy in an unhappy/happy wayEmbarassed no?, me neither, I only write the stuff I don't understand itLaughing

Write your comments here...Thats why it's advisable to be a member of a number of forums.  There will always be discussions of interest.  When one forum becomes bland and boring, use the others.

Kennine, this will just have to stop. We are agreeing with each other far more than ever before and some might think that that is unhealthy!

But it was that "blandness" that I was trying to address.  I fully accept that this is entirely a matter of personal opinion but I honestly do feel that in trying to over control the Forum the managers set the Ts & Cs far too rigidly. It is that error that then allowed some moderators to rigidly enforce the Ts & Cs to the extent that has resulted in this overpowering blandness.  Again I stress that the foregoing was a personal opinion only.

But I like many others use the General Area as my first point of contact before moving on - Sometimes to other areas of interest.  So - What is wrong for example with allowing some leeway, and allowing a wrongly placed post to remain in "General" for a couple of days to get established, before then moving it off to a more suitable permanent place?

I am too old a bunny now to get over excited about this or even over heated!  People will disagree with me and that is fine.

However as a relatively early member I do remember the earlier days with some affection. Yes there were spats but nothing that couldnt be handled and at least it wasn't so bland!

Write your comments here...I also remember the early days with affection TF and although people did not always agree, it was good to read a variety of opinions.

I can honestly say that I, during the life of this forum,  have never been intimidated or felt uncomfortable by anything posted. I enjoyed the cheeky banter, the gentle windups and the great feeling of cameraderie then.  Some of it directed at me, but not a problem,  all done as kenny Everet would say " in the best possible taste".

Yes TF it's good to agree with other forum members.

I belong to a couple of other fora, concerned with motorcycles. Now, everyone knows what an uncouth argumentative abusive rabble that 'bikers' are. And yet, without intrusive moderation, everyone seems to get along quite happily, without many of the spats that have cropped up here in the past.

When someone steps out of line on the motorcycling fora, it is usually peer pressure rather than moderation that resolves the conflict. That said, folks who simply won't behave just get banned.

I won't pass judgement upon what this appears to say about the caravanning comunity .....

I'm sorry TF but I don't understand why the moderators are to blame for this.

If you look at the first few pages of General Chat the posts that have been moved are clearly in completely the wrong place.

I'm sure many people come to GC as their first port of call but I'm sure that many like me don't.  Why would a 'technical' post get more established here?

People clearly enjoy the posts you mention in your OP.  I'm afraid that the blandness of a forum depends on what is posted and not what the moderators do to keep things in the right place.

Write your comments here...JS, The moderators are only following the instructions of the Forum Manager,--- My personal opinion is that the moderators have nothing to be blamed for.  If anybody is unhappy with the way the forum is now being run they should EMail the forum manager direct. ----------- Don't expect a reply though.

Getting back to the topic of "livening up this Section" - I don't think it would be fair to do this, as you seem to suggest TF, by using discussions which are appropriate to the other Forum Sections.

If someone starts a discussion about caravans in General Chat, you seem to be suggesting that members like yourself who make a personal choice only to frequent General Chat should have the privilege of responding first?

Then after a few days, the discussion can be moved with your blessing to the Caravans Section where members actually go to read about and discuss erm Caravans!

Is it not better the forum way - ie discussions are in the correct areas and, for example members who wish to read the Caravans Section can see all posts on Caravans?

Cheers

Bugs

Whilst there is sometimes some ambiguity as to where to place a post, most of the ones that need moving are down to the OP being too lazy/thick to post it in the correct section.

Bugs I'm not going to continue this because it is clearly going nowhere. But you know that I wasn't meaning something as blatantly wrong as discussing a Caravan in the General section, but something slightly less direct than that.  but for me it is the sheer speed that you in particular seem, to move things on.

You clearly do not appreciate me having a contrary view, so as I said before, I accept that what I have said  is my personal view, and I realise that others will disagree, so I will leave it there.
