How can we liven this section up?

We have simply got to liven this section up somehow!

It used to be quite lively, but now its just terminal boredom!  We have such riveting threads such as 'What are you all up to today?" ( As if anyone really cares ) and "What is it like for you?)"  discussing the weather Oh great!

The trouble is that if someone just even dares to pen something the slightest bit interesting it gets shunted into the backwoods where it probably won't be seen.

Suggestions please!

A radical rethink should take place on this forum.. As the forum is supposed to be about our hobby,  We dont need any of the sections under the heading of The Social Room or as it has been described in the past, the AntiSocial room.  Just remove them

Those non relevant subjects are superflous to this caravan/motorhome forum.  Yes it will reduce greatly the Forum post count but better to have interesting quality posting. Leave the "fluff" for social media sites.

Wink

Hi MrH

Rowena has explained the reasoning behind this decision on a number of occasions - here's a recast of a post she added last November:

When launching Club Together the resource was outlined for caravanning and motorhome chat. We are The Caravan Club and that's what the forum is for. The alternative would be not to have a forum at all.

When we did have political and religious debate there were some extrememly offensive comments made and so many heated arguments, which is why The Club asks people to stick to on topic chat. I know there are people that remember this and are grateful for the decision The Club made. There are other off topic areas of the community but these don't generate arguments or need moderation in the way the religious and political discussions did. We could remove these areas but I don't want us to be cutting off our nose to spite our face so to speak, but perhaps this is something that needs to be reviewed if poeple do find this confusing.

I fully appreciate people enjoy debate and we have explained in great detail many times before why we don't allow this type of discussion to the few that find this frustrating. It's also outlined in the guidelines with explanations as to this decision. Everyone on the community has agreed to abide by these.

As has been pointed out, we are not the only caravanning forum that does not allow this type of topic, however I fully appreciate people want to discuss certain topics which is why I always say, please recommend other forums for this type of debate.

I hope this helps explain. There's not much more I can say on this but appreciate the support from those who have respected and understood the reasoning behind this decision for our caravan online community.

Cheers

Bugs

Were you not around in the bad old days when such things were discussed, Mr H? Discussions degenerated into slanging matches with insults abounding. People seemed incapable of discussing issues rationally without making matters personal. Topics such as politics and religion were banned because of posters' behaviour. Remember that the forum acts as a shop window for CC.

Edit: Cross posted with you, Bugs.

Ok Bugs I do understand. In future I will not contribute to the general discussion which I thought was a great way to form a community and build absent friends. Bye

Your choice, Mr H. You didnt actually need to return to make the second post.

Hi everyone,

Please can I ask that this discussion is free from insults as we have removed a post that caused offence and was reported by members. We need to ensure the conversation is constructive and friendly, regardless of difference of opinion.

I won't go into why we banned political debate as this has been discussed on many occasions in the past and reiterated on this discussion previously, as well as being clearly outlined in the Community Guidelines and FAQs.

I think General Chat may not appear to be as 'lively' as previously because we don't just have the one area to post now like in the past. We created new sections within the social room so people can go directly to what interests them as such discussions are just not all in one place anymore. This means that General Chat may not seem so active but the Social Room as a whole certainly is still busy with some good conversations for people to get involved with.

Mr H, we all very much enjoy your contributions and hope you continue to contribute in other areas of the social room and community. Smile

It strikes me that the Champions are damned if they do and damned if they don't.

I'm damned if I know what's going on.
