How can we liven this section up?

We have simply got to liven this section up somehow!

It used to be quite lively, but now its just terminal boredom!  We have such riveting threads such as 'What are you all up to today?" ( As if anyone really cares ) and "What is it like for you?)"  discussing the weather Oh great!

The trouble is that if someone just even dares to pen something the slightest bit interesting it gets shunted into the backwoods where it probably won't be seen.

Suggestions please!

Looks like you have created a lot of interest Tigerfish, 703 views way above any other topic, in a. Very short time.

Totally agree general chat used to include humour, lively debate with differing views that often would enhance your knowledge. Where if we are allowed would we discuss the referendum for example.

Good point H the most important vote for many a year.

Write your comments here...Indeed it is, but the forum manager has put a total ban on any reference to politics.  As members we either comply with this or go on to another forum where grown up discussion is allowed.

Surely 'general chat' is just that? Is this not the place for off topic banter and whatnot? Just checking as it is hard to stay on topic on 'serious' threads so one would think this section would be the place to say whatever takes your fancy. Within reason of course...

Bugs, part of the problem IMHO, seems to be the almost unholy delight that you appear to have in swooping almost immediately on honestly placed GC posts, and then bumping them off into the backwoods where they then whither & die.

That is a shame because I know that is not what you are really about.  There really does need to be a liitle more leeway in the way T&C's are interpreted.  Nelson demonstrated real leadership when he applied his telescope to his blind eye.

The saying "Regulations are for the guidance of the wise and the rigid adherance of fools" must surely apply here. You are certainly nobody's fool. So lets have a little leeway.

I didn't intend to set such a rabbit running, so I will now exit this thread stage left!

As you know, the Champions have been asked to move posts to the correct Forum Section.

A discussion on caravans is more likely to get useful responses if it is in the Caravans Section.

The correct Forum Sections are not "backwoods where they then whither & die" - on the contrary, as I pointed out earlier, those Sections are thriving!

Cheers

"I'm merely pointing out that just because you follow the orders doesn't make them right in the first place."

In life we all have to follow 'orders' otherwise chaos ensues, and if they are not to your liking there is always a road open to ask for change. You want to join the Forum by which you have accepted the T&C's, then decide you don't want to abide by them. Best is to get on your bike and go elsewhere where anarchy reigns.

Surely a section entitled General Chat is the backwoods of any forum?

Why is there such a fuss about posts being put in the right place?  There's an enormous amount of activity outside General Chat.

I for one am glad posts are moved out of this section as there have been some interesting and informative discussions that I would never have seen if they stayed here

Dave If you have a dinner party do you provide your guests with a set of rules for the after dinner discussions or do you let it flow. I suppose you could provide an agenda that spells out when certain topics can be discussed. The changes to this forum occurred due to a few antagonists that needed controlling being allowed to disrupt discussions. The T&Cs should have been able to control them so free discusson could continue.

Mr H, do you have an open door policy at your dinner partys to allow any passing individual to walk into your Home to listen to your discussions, that is what the CC do with the forum. All discussions on here are public.

Rocky, I understand fully and would not participate, without knowing any contributions go far beyond the bounds of this forum. My point is that when you have a general discussion the topics vary during the duration and providing someone is not deliberately antagonistic it is fine by me. The difficulty is when somebody expresses something you dislike and not being able to contain yourself. Rocky I have not always agreed with  some of your views on topics, but I would defend your right to express them unless you were to make them 'personal' Why is it unacceptable talk about issues like the referendum which is on just about every media format, just because it is politics?
