It's good to hear that members of CT are receiving their vaccinations, good luck to all those yet to have theirs. It seems like a long haul till we get everyone sorted and hear the results of the present vaccines.

I'm leaving this open for non political comments as per the guidelines. Hope you can add your own experiences and thoughts.

My first jab comes up tomorrow, I'm so glad we have research institutions that have got us this far! And I am planning breaks away in the hope of improvements on the horizon.

There seems to be two groups in the immortal category, the young 'Billy no jabs' and the older 'Billy two jabs'. Many in my age group of the 60-70s that have had both jabs seem oblivious to the fact that although hospitilisation and death are greatly reduced, the jabs efficiency rate still poses a risk, especially to those with underlying health problems.

Although I have no underlying health problems I will pick and choose my moments where I think a face mask might be appropriate for me, such as a crowded bus, a crowded shop etc. I will be cautious for some time yet until figures appear that vaccination puts this under control, and becomes another virus like flu that is controllable for the many.

You base your choice on self protection.

I base my reasons for for decision on the well being on others (both mental and physical)

We were told originally that mask wearing was to protect other people, not the wearer. They prevent the wearer spraying bugs over other people. If we accept that theory, then the concept of mask wearing becomes one of social responsibility rather than self protection.

I think that mask wearing should remain compulsory on public transport, crowded areas and shops until the infection level drops and there is less chance of variants developing. After all the deaths and hardships it's a small price to pay. I, like most others, don't like the things but I will continue to wear mine in the above places. With all the people travelling to Devon this summer it will be crowded with people from all over, won't be chancing crowded places without a mask.

I think that your prodigious memory is failing you wink

Our government following, WHO guidelines perhaps, initially said that masks were of no use laughing

Never had much faith in the WHO on such matters

What I would like to know is how do you catch the bug. Do you breathe it in or do you catch it from touching things or both?

I recently read that scientific research had discovered there was little chance of cross infection from touching surfaces.  The main causes of transmission are by breathing it in, hence the stress on ventilation, distancing etc.

If you inside, in close proximity to someone with Covid then your chances of it being passed on is greater.
