What have they done?

Well, I waited until it went live. Where do l start ? UTTER PANTS best describes my experience.  The queuing system failed to direct me where I wanted to go, I ran out of battery trying to search CLs and to cap it my wife's smart phone "is not compatible with the CAMC app ". sealed

DK, There are lots of sites where one can phone on the previous day and ask if there will be vacancies for the following afternoon. And if  they say Yes, then turn up, thank them and book in - without any payment in advance at all.

Agree. Steer clear of the big commercials, use CLs and the small independents and it’s another World.

Ina, that post is so unlike you.

Do you mean to suggest people join CAMC without bothering to read about the workings of the organisation they join? The club's governance rules are on the website for everyone to read and it’s not necessary to use the forum to know about governance.

I would very much think so. We certainly didn’t when we joined 17 years ago, we just wanted to book some of their sites as we had just purchased a caravan.

But you surely agree that learning of the club's governance was available to you and didn’t depend on using the forum🤷🏻‍♂️

ET

Maybe so, but I am suggesting that the people saying they are giving up Club membership because they don't like the new conditions their general MO is to book in advance, probably, quite a way in advance as the Club have previously allowed them to cancel at short notice without any penalty? I am just putting forward the suggestion that they are going to find it hard to find something similar. I somehow doubt they are the sort of people that are willing to " wing it" by phoning a site on the day? They can't really migrate to the C&CC as their T&C's are not as generous as the CMC.

What a load of rubbish the new booking system is,what was wrong with the old one where you could see a campsite that you wanted to stay at,checked to see if it was available for the dates you wanted and booked it. What could be simpler, as they say if it is not broke you don't fix it

...and some where you can 'book' in advance without a deposit and even pay when you leave, as we did recently with a small commercial in the New Forest. £21 a night and a lovely site, miles away, in character (it has some) from a couple of well known Club sites in the area at twice the price.

David, folk leaving the club will need to check other sources for alternate sites, but, as ET reminds us, there are many sources and search facilities out there...

I’m sure they were available, although I can not remember what form the web site took then. I know our first bookings were on the telephone, as online had not started. I’m sure there was information in the SD. However, it was really the “without bothering to read” bit I was questioning. I’m sure many, possibly most, do not bother to read.

I think the new booking system will take a little time to get used to.  I don't have an issue with deposits, one way or the other, but I am so pleased we are now able to book pitch surface types.  It has been a long time coming.....

P.S.  For anyone who is interested, I have updated the list of Serviced Pitches on CT, to include 4 sites where serviced pitches have been put in this year:  Cheddar, Clumber Park, Morn Hill, and Scarborough West Ayton.
