You could be one of the very few ,L/V owners who seem to understand what is involved with ownership  ,rather than what seems the majority,   it is others responsibility to cater for my choice?,and cannot see that in the real world things are not that easy or simple

Wow, JV, you agree with me. Should I be worried?πŸ˜€

My view of life as a whole is that it's what I make it and whatever my decisions are, I live with the consequences. I never expect others to bend to accommodate my needs but I work around any obstacles in my way. Therefore, in the case of my MH, I live with any constraints it imposes without expecting special treatment.

When you consider how many P&R sites have height barriers, it is an indication of the prevailing mindset that have a tendency to force motorhomes into "Flying Dutchman" mode rather than perceiving the need and pondering how to meet it.

Posted on 21/03/2021 10:17

But the perceived need by who? Is it the needs of MHs or the needs of local residents who will fund theses needs.

If I were a local resident why would I want public money spent on supplying MHs with a free/cheap place to stay?

I've always been of the mindset that it's my choice to drive a larger than average vehicle and I don't expect others to make provision for my personal choices. If height barriers are in place it's for a reason so I go elsewhere. Strange, I know, but I see it as my problem and not one other people need to solve for me. πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ

What is the difference between a height barrier and one that raises to allow entry? Both do the same job of restricing entry. Car parks that charge could equally be fitted with ANPR barriers that automatically  lift to allow entry but wont let you out until you have paid at the machine with a card. There are Aires in France which employ such barriers and operate quiet sucessfully.

But these are car parks for day use and not aires for overnight camping use?

If one chooses a MH for touring then don't expect special treatment just because one wants a cheap stay funded by local funds?

I've no doubt they do operate successfully in places where the car park operator is willing to accept certain vehicles, PD, but if he's not willing, that's all there is to it. It's their choice.
