What about the marble lined one in Monte Carlowink

Posted on 21/03/2021 11:19

Been there and it was not the cost of the parking I remember but the beer and sandwich at the Cafe de Paris-which is right where you step of the escalator.

It was luck that I was not paying Cornwall parking prices so had a bit to spare.

It would be good to just park for the day. Who mentioned costs?

So these aires, car parks... cost nothing to anyone to make? And then nothing for their upkeep? And you mentioned ANPR, is that free to install and use? Wow!

So, all being well, who is off on the 12th then? smile (Presumably a site rather than a car park? laughing)

Some places are very bad in terms of car park charging (Scarborough, Whitby, Filey, the finger points at you😡), but other areas in UK are very good. We had three weeks up in Northumberland/Borders region, and only paid for one car park with MH, and that was a small sum.

We like to support and spend money in local shops and businesses when on holiday. Coming from somewhere that has had its heart ripped out losing its staple industries, and knowing how hard it has been for folks made redundant to start something new, often their own little business, small amounts spent can be a lifeline. If you visit somewhere like Cornwall, like we do on a regular basis, it’s not uncommon to see shop premises changing hands, someone dreams fading, while others are on the start up. Areas heavily reliant upon tourists have had a hard year in certain terms. And for some places, the trading year is measured in months, not year round.

Not us-but then we are lucky as we are already where many hope they can go to.

We are booked onto a site with friends on the 17th May and will then be at two vaccine doses + 13 days which was the reason for choosing that date.

I am happy to spend in places I love. What I am less happy with is seeing a grasping and grudging attitude towards those who do bring in the their pounds or euros and its so marked in the UK that its one of the things I like best about taking my business elsewhere. For example I can spend 3 months in mainland Europe and spend little or nothing in all that time on car parking, try doing that for a day here.

Posted on 21/03/2021 11:33

Again, as been said many many times, there is no use or point in comparing different countries. Things are what they are and I can't see either changing - can you?

And even if true and about free parking over in Europe (which in my experience in the cities and major tourists spots isn't) one has to factor in the high costs of getting there in the first place in order to enjoy this free parking you talk about?

In any case it is academic at the moment so I suppose this is all we have?

Speaking to  (Mayday)Green Flag  this morning they are expecting a large increase in call outs when sites open on 12th for mostly battery, tyres and brakes?

Cue the disbelievers or the " it couldn't work here brigade".

I can only remember paying once to park in France and that was on the poshest underground car park I've ever seen in Saint Tropez.

The question is could it work here?  Can you see the current practices changing? Could you say how that would happen?

Free parking at Wigan pier for example?

Last time I parked in Florence it was 3 euros an hour in the centre.

Not quite that early Brue, but we have something booked for April, not too far away, fingers crossed that the places we want to visit, shops we want to browse will be open. Second jab call might cut things short, but even if we only get half of what we have planned, we shall enjoy the change of scenery. It’s not touristy either, carefully chosen.
