I think the call out's will be much nearer to home. frown

We're hoping to get away nearer the end of April, have to be flexible due to unknown dates for 2nd jabs. We won't be venturing far and going to a quiet area.

Some places are very bad in terms of car park charging (Scarborough, Whitby, Filey, the finger points at you😑), but other areas in UK are very good. We had three weeks up in Northumberland/Borders region, and only paid for one car park with MH, and that was a small sum.

We like to support and spend money in local shops and businesses when on holiday. Coming from somewhere that has had its heart ripped out losing its staple industries, and knowing how hard it has been for folks made redundant to start something new, often their own little business, small amounts spent can be a lifeline. If you visit somewhere like Cornwall, like we do on a regular basis, it’s not uncommon to see shop premises changing hands, someone dreams fading, while others are on the start up. Areas heavily reliant upon tourists have had a hard year in certain terms. And for some places, the trading year is measured in months, not year round.

The more of a Honey Pot the area it also follows that the locals will mostly make what they can (club sites?)

I am happy to spend in places I love. What I am less happy with is seeing a grasping and grudging attitude towards those who do bring in the their pounds or euros and its so marked in the UK that its one of the things I like best about taking my business elsewhere. For example I can spend 3 months in mainland Europe and spend little or nothing in all that time on car parking, try doing that for a day here.

A grasping and grudging attitude is not one I've experienced other than in certain LV-ers who begrudge paying modest fees to use proper facilities and, instead, defile cliff tops, lay-bys etc.

As for car parking charges, I guess it's what you're used to that forms the basis of any comparison. I remember one member  commenting how reasonable they were in Cornwall compared to his home area while others slate them for being dear. 🀷‍♂️

Not quite sure of what you are saying JV, but it follows that any business, large or small, city based, rural based, etc.... will be doing it to earn a living, pay the bills, pay the staff, support their families. If we can help out small businesses rather than multi nationals with shareholders we will.

I actually didn't write Even if its true so no idea why you have put quotation marks around it as if I did? Mis-quoting me?

I think if you read my post carefully you will see I wrote even if true... and linking it with the cost of getting there in the first place which will offset the free parking. There is a grammatical difference and no hint of you being disingenuous, apologies if you thought that but it appeared that you were implying that there were no parking charges in Europe.

Also I have much more experience in living 'over there' and parking charges were common in serval large cities and tourist places in Italy even back in the sixties and seventies. As I said in my experience.

The likes of me? Really David can you not be civil in getting your point across?

I am banking on all those who normally head off overseas finding life on holiday here very difficult, wet, expensive, restrictive, second rate, boring, frustrating. Hopefully they will all ferry off, jet off, Chunnel off next year, leaving most of us who love it here to get on with having our usual good timeπŸ˜πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‡
