Site Shops

Just read a review of Wirral CP site that mentions that the wardens are no longer able to sell basic goods from the reception. They told the reviewer that it was a H.O. management decision.

Is this a regular occurrence elsewhere as I've not seen it mentioned before and not being a regular attendee on club sites would not have come across it?

Should imagine it would affect some members more than others.

Just a thought, is there anything in the rules to stop me bringing a selection of groceries and selling them on site winkinnocentcoolmoney-mouth

Oh I'm sure they are.  It's all part of running a business to keep an eye on what the competition is doing.  However, in the unlikely event that CC Ltd don't bother I'm sure the decisions made by their members will be swayed but the decisions made by each club.

Sometimes, but hopefully only sometimes, businesses can find advantage over others by covertly or otherwise circumnavigating legal requirements and ethical behaviours. Now I’m not suggesting or casting doubt or pointing fingers here but, you are right, any company worth its salt needs to keep an eye on competitors in order to question their own behaviours. Sometimes to copy and at other times definitely not! The grass is not always what it seems, not always correct and is not always ‘greener’ (in every sense of the word)!

. As I said earlier some 30 colleagues this year are asking for feedback on the 30 sites with no shop this year and the negative feedback has been minimal.

JK, is there a readily available list of those sites?

As mentioned in my OP I'm unlikely to be one of those members inconvenienced by the lack of a "site shop", particularly as you have confirmed that basic touring provisions such as toilet fluid etc will still be on sale, but I put up the OP to bring other members attention to a possible  change of status. I was thinking more of the Motorhomes without a car who on a site such as say Buxton would be faced with a walk into Buxton itself and back uphill with shopping, a walk to the Service Station about half a mile away or taking the M/Home out rather than buying said milk from the office.

As far as I remember the site shops I've come across, admittedly in my rare forays recently onto sites, are not actually depriving local businesses of much in the way of trade as they were hardly Mini Tescos. I'm a true believer in buying from independents but for a full shop I'll be like almost everyone else and use a supermarket.

As long as you are compliant, hold the correct documentation and insurance, just like those F&C, pizza and ice cream vans etc. that do already trade on site, why not? Clearly though they are not having to run the site at the same time!

Whether the club/staff/campers would see you on site as an advantage is a different matter!

So a site review which mentions a conversation with a disgruntled employee. Nothing official then because there is nothing official.

No list available WN, it's just between colleagues as I mentioned earlier. The feedback at the end of the season will be useful.

You'll just need a shop license from the club, adequate liability insurance and if you're selling produced food an up to date food hygiene certificate along with permission to park somewhere other than your pitch from the site staff and a selection of dates you'll commit to. Simples, bring your spuds.
