Just read a review of Wirral CP site that mentions that the wardens are no longer able to sell basic goods from the reception. They told the reviewer that it was a H.O. management decision.

Is this a regular occurrence elsewhere as I've not seen it mentioned before and not being a regular attendee on club sites would not have come across it?

Should imagine it would affect some members more than others.

I think it was a perfectly reasonable statement.

I have never seen Sandwiches made at any Club site i have ever stayed on.  So the reference is pointless and irrelovent.

I see you’ve quoted me from 4 months ago but I don’t know what you are talking about🤷🏻‍♂️🙄

Your choice Rayjsj, I would rather use UHT semi skimmed than no milk at all. There are also other milk alternatives, powders, evaporated or even condensed.

I'd rather have a beer instead 🍺

Absolutely, that's what we do.

I hate UHT milk or any of the other suggestions. So before arriving on site I do a shop, you know how long you are staying it's not hard to work out how much milk you go through.

OH also detests UHT milk.  When I worked in south Italy in the early 80s, getting fresh milk was very difficult, used to be similar in France too, but a few years now since we have been there.  I did not mind the UHT on cereal, but not for drinking.  Our son, then about 11, got used to it quite quickly.

DD is into unsweetened almond milk on cereal, says it is OK in coffee, but horrible in tea......she ran out of real milk one day so tried it!

We try wherever possible to buy fresh milk when abroad but  it must be a minority taste. In huge French or Spanish supermarkets it will be there but usually a small chiller cabinet and not easy to find whereas the UHT section will have an aisle to itself.

My Italian assistant told me it was  because families get through so much milk, they cannot easily keep that quantity refrigerated, so UHT is the default.

I would have thought most of us, with just two to cater for, can arrive with sufficient supplies to last for 4 days. To go to a site for longer with no intention of moving the MH and no means of getting to shops, doesn’t seem particularly sensible.
I don’t think we have ever used site shops for things like milk, although have bought local eggs and other local, products when stocked and particularly liked that aspect of them.

Oat milk seems to work best both in tea and coffee. Because of the dairy ban when crossing the water we took a carton of this with us to get us started on our last tour.

KJ, mention to your DD to try Oatly milk in both tea & coffee. It is thicker than std Oat Milk. If it is shaken rigorously before pouring it forms a froth & with a good coffee it is wonderful, tea too but with coffee it’s a toe curler👍🏻😊

For the benefit of anybody visiting Wharfedale Club site, you might be pleased to learn that the site staff are still operating a shop for basics.
