Just read a review of Wirral CP site that mentions that the wardens are no longer able to sell basic goods from the reception. They told the reviewer that it was a H.O. management decision.

Is this a regular occurrence elsewhere as I've not seen it mentioned before and not being a regular attendee on club sites would not have come across it?

Should imagine it would affect some members more than others.

A maximum cash transaction limit in the UK?  That is a new one to me.  Can you give details?  I have always thought there is no legal limit to cash payments in the UK.

A manager where I used to work was a budding Arfur Daley .... he went to buy a boat & took a carrier bag of cash with him. I've no idea how much or where it came from but he had the tax man knocking on his door after the seller reported him 🙄

Yes, there is a raft of regulation around paying for good and services or moving large sums of money but provided those requirements are met there is no limit.

But there is a limit at which point a trader has to engage with the special measures. As I said it is unlikely to affect CLs or even CAMC which is what we were talking about here.

There is a max limit but it’s much more than you'd carry around in your wallet. It's several thousand pounds.

Well if all this is true its  a bit sad really. Health and Safety gone mad. Does this mean if a farm wants to sell free range eggs by the roadside the H& S man will be down on them ?  The simple solution for CAMC is to sub contract their shop operation and  charge a fee to the contractor. The Club then has no liability but does have a formal income stream

I can tell from these comments the frequent CL users! wink Our village shop and other shops take cash. The only strange anomaly locally is a chip shop which refuses cards!!

Posted on 11/04/2023 21:11

Lots of chip shops are cash only. I wonder why?

That may be what you intended but it is not what you wrote. I suggest you re-read the comment DK made and your post responding to it.

😁 Quite possibly, after all HMRC would want to know from where the money came but provided it was all legally earned and the tax had been paid there would have been no legal limit.

Knowing the manager in question I doubt it was all entirely above board 🙄
