Site Shops

Just read a review of Wirral CP site that mentions that the wardens are no longer able to sell basic goods from the reception. They told the reviewer that it was a H.O. management decision.

Is this a regular occurrence elsewhere as I've not seen it mentioned before and not being a regular attendee on club sites would not have come across it?

Should imagine it would affect some members more than others.

I think the demographic of club membership (or at least club site users) must have changed a lot since we gave up 3 years ago! If I was a warden/site manager reading some comments on this, and other threads, I'd be very tempted to say "s*d the lot of you, there's easier ways of earning a meagre living"! surprised

What I fail to understand is, on one hand, the howls of anguish about the loss of "basic, no facility" sites alongside complaints about now having to make the effort to get off site and buy basics at local businesses who are probably desperate for the trade!

No pleasing some folk!  undecided

Moulesy a good thing has come out of this thread, the fact that CAMC have altered the site details information and explained how site shops are organised. They haven't expanded the details further and are still listing what is on offer on individual sites eg milk, bread etc so it's unclear what members might expect to find especially now that this provision has stopped on certain sites. Hence the OP and myself mentioning a couple of reviewers noting these changes and we now know a bit more about the background to them. We hoped the club would communicate this but it's  now left to "reading the small print" and understanding this may be out of date.

Some of the sites continue to support local businesses buying in bakery products etc.  No bad thing either.

And a note to Micky, you can still get your milk delivered, we get ours delivered in glass bottles just like in days of yore. Cuts down on plastics too.

Make of all this what you will but I expect there'll be a few more reviews in a similar vein because the changes have not been relayed to the membership.

To be honest coming under attack on this thread for asking about a fairly basic communication omission between the club and the membership hasn't been much fun.

So I'm leaving this conversation having understood a lot more of the process involved.

“We plan for all our Club Sites to offer a simple and consistent range of essential products.

As we work hard to implement this, not all campsites will have products available, so please arrive with all your essentials needed for your stay. You can see which Club Sites have shops through the shopping basket icon on each of the campsite pages”

The above is in this months ccc news letter, so what is the real reason why this club is doing away with them

Can you please advise where it states that this club are doing away with site shops?

No, no free shop. As I always look at the broader picture rather than get hung up on one very narrow subject.  To me this thread is more about VFM, even perceived VFM, rather than whether an actual shop is available on site.

Posted on 03/04/2023 15:28

Well let’s not bother discussing specific issues, let’s just have one coverall thread and then VFM can be shoehorned into every thread.
Let’s look at the individual detail behind that broader picture I say. That’s far more relevant and will keep us on thread. Shops is what it’s about!.

I’m all for it, glass bottles that is! But the milkmen of old are very few and far between these days. The paperboy of old too, or should that be paperperson☹️, also is a dying breed. If both were to cut down on food mileage and ‘paper’ mileage’ I would be supportive of them too. I wonder if the likes of Tesco deliveries help the green challenge? I’m sure site shops did help us members in general and I’m sad to see their demise but that’s the way of our modern world I think. And who is to blame, well I guess it’s our generation that has wished and allowed our way into the modern world, it’s often called progress.

For shops to return I’m sure things will have to change. Problems is that change may mean more expensive pitch fees.

Brue, there have been attacks and they’ve been dealt with but not against you. Perhaps you took offence when none was intended.🤷🏻‍♂️

Incidentally, I seem to recall you leaving the thread some pages back but it’s a free choice to back track👍🏻.

I don’t know if it’s a typo but I’m struggling with the relevance of the reference to CCC. 🤷🏻‍♂️

I took it to be a comparison CC Ltd -v- C&CC and their offering regarding shops on site.  Simples!

Posted on 03/04/2023 17:43

But one club's policies have no bearing on the other club's decisions. Even more 'simples' 🙄
