Pre-arrival texts

I’ve heard of a few people who have received texts just before their booking start dates reminding them of the 1300 arrival time. I’m told the wording makes it clear they will be turned away if they arrive early. This is in addition to the usual booking reminder emails.

I’m wondering if CAMC is taking steps to curb early arrivals. Has anyone here received a text?

so ...  someone turns up 10 mins early (at somewhere like NYM where there is a long access road off the main road) and refuses to turn around & go away for 10 mins. What happens then? That mythical lay-bye might have been full of HGVs having their dinner. Do you suggest their membership card is shredded or suspended for a set time?

Problem is if they refuse to turn round and block the public highway then someone who is blocked calls the police. If by some miracle the police come. Then the driver of the offending vehicle can be booked for obstructing the public highway.

Must be us thick northerners

OK, I’ll make this as simple as I can. At 19.04 I posted the following to ED:

"Best start another thread or go back over old ones, ED. This one was started to enquire about texts and, thanks to JK, we now know the answer."

Ergo, I was plainly referring to the question I asked in my OP about texts being sent. JK's answer to that is on pg2. For some obscure reason, you and ED thought I was talking about the reasons for the 1300 arrival time despite me saying this thread was not about that. 😵‍💫

I hope this has spelled it out for you. 👍🏻

If think E D asked this “have they? Covid was an excuse for 1 o'clock at one stage .... is it still?”  I still can’t find an answer to the question asked by ED

I didn’t have a clue ED was just saying what could happen

That's OK & I'm sur there are very many sites where access could be better. But congestion can occur at times other than 1 o'clock. I once arrived at Morton-in-Marsh along with another 3 or 4 outfits. I wasn't going to wait on the main road so it meant that we all parked up at the barrier which blocked it .... warden made some comment about me attempting to jump the queue until asked his suggestion of either blocking the main road or blocking the site barrier.

I think the issue should be why have the club changed the arrival time to 13.00hrs?

OK at a few sites 12 noon arrivals can cause problems but at most this is not an issue

As the price for the pitches is constantly rising I think a small thankyou from the club by allowing us extra time not less time on site would be appreciated by most people

We have witnessed people turned away at a few club sites this year which is very unreasonable, people arriving at 12.50 and told to go away and come back after 13.00 on sites that have good waiting areas and were not fully booked so available pitches

Dawn

You need to see this link  It explains the reasons as allowing time for people to leave before new arrivals appear. It also suggests it allows time for your pitch to be valetedwink

Interesting to read JK's reply where he said the Club are insisting site staff turn people away, I don't know whether there is any leeway in that decision. Given this is meant to be a members club that seems a draconian measure if it applies to people turning up say 10 minutes early. As to whether the message is getting out to members that is a different matter. To find the link I posted you have to scroll down the site page you are interested in to see the link. I expect those well versed in booking sites will do just that and ignore any other information on that page. JVB highlights a couple of other things saying that it has been in the magazine a couple of times. Given the number of people who say they don't read the magazine I am not surprised it's been missed. The decision to text people is I think a good one but it might depend when that text is sent and whether you are a habitual checker of your phone, some people aren't. I can just see someones face when they turn up half an hour early only to the told by site staff that you have a text on your phone! Unless it's changed since I last got one I think they need to redesign the confirmation booking email. There is a lot of guff most of it isn't  needn't  there, if they did that they could have a very clear message about arrival times. I appreciate that early arrivals were probably a problem when we had 12 noon arrivals but the Club have to be better at the way they communicate these changes. They have an open resource here on CT, why not use it?

The problem with giving 10 minutes leeway is where will it stop?

Will that be enforced rigorously?

And if it is what happens if someone turns up at 11 minutes early? surely a bit of leeway there again? What about 12? 13? 14... minutes early?

What is the limit? It doesn't matter as if the leeway time is 10,11,15, 20 then certain (selfish) people will push it to arrive a few minutes before it. Might as well just keep it at 13:00 and no leeway.

One set time as given, arrive before then off one go, if a lay by is full keep driving till you can arrive and be let in. The message will soon get through.

Posters have mentioned three early arrivals and then action, loose your bookings, whatever, actually I think it should be less than three. If anyone refuses to move or follow warden's request no matter what happens after then serious action should be taken by the club afterwards.
