No News Yet on the New Booking System

I noticed in the latest magazine there is an article on potential changes to the site booking system. I am sure we had a similar article a couple of months ago? Although there seems a commitment to being able to book a pitch type they are less than clear on other changes such as deposits. Apparently they are still considering it and looking closely at member feedback, including Club Together!!! I suppose we should be encouraged that they are taking note of what is said on this forum? I could be wrong but there seems a sort on consensus on CT that probably its coming to the point where deposits might be the way forward, some more reluctant than others maybe? Obviously many would want to see the small print perhaps before accepting it as a way forward. A decision may well have been made but it seems that it could be a few more months before full details are made public.

As I have just posted on another thread,  security is now very much in vogue with the increasing it seems problems with  unauthorised? entry to sites,

FM has now had to close its LNA and install extra barriers, for just that reason  ,,at busy arrival times a member of the site team manning the first barrier to check off the booked arrivals

Seems a bit excessive. A barrier with a keypad as well as a card reader, would still permit use of the late night arrivals. Code could be one time, same as in a car wash. At busy arrivals they could person it as they do now.

I think all methods had been looked at to keep an LNA opensurprised

I think a one off code has to be via a computer generated system?undecided

Unfortunately no matter what booking or entry system is considered/used those undesirables will still find a way to get in and they do. Tailgating or even someone already on site using their card/code to gain access for others are two common ways. Proper prevention would, I’m sure, be extremely expensive and have a knock on for us. Deposits will not stop them in the slightest. However, I am in favour of deposits for other reasons.

My neighbour with a B & B won’t accept bookings for single nights months ahead - especially not weekend nights. She refuses them and waits for bookings for longer stays to come in, but if there are none, then nearer the time she will accept bookings for single nights. An idea for caravan sites?

The difference is the club is a network of sites and therein lies the attraction for many members. Spending consecutive nights on several different sites is part of the modus operandi of many of those Motorhomers which were attracted to the club over recent years. Very different for that stand alone B&B.

Club sites also provide one night stop offs for those ‘caravaners’ on longer trips to their final destination.

Stayed at a site where reservation is all online vehicle details cross referenced with national database to provide all correct , barrier opens on arrival at site entrance with number plate recognition your name displayed at entrance on a board with pitch number proceed to pitch and set up.

Booking available up to 5.30 pm for same day arrival, queues thing of the past no walking round to find a pitch or going back to the office, owners / staff walk round to check everything ok.

Best system we  have found anywhere.

I would much rather pick my own pitch and I would envisage that many other members would as well!  I am sure that there would be numerous complaints from members about their pitches if pitches were allocated - some complain, even if they arrive on site late in the day and there are only one or two pitches still available!  You say that it is the best system but how would you feel about it if you were allocated a muddy pitch, or an unnatractive pitch right next to the electric sub station or storage building?
