The Club have released more details of the new Booking System here

There are still finer details still to be arrived but the link (thanks Harry) sets out how the new system will work.

I have closed the previous thread on when we will get details of the new booking system and opened this one to allow comments specifically on the new system rather than discussing what they might be.

I think JK has run quite a few “grass only” Sites K, and others that are 50/50 like Exeter. We always go on grass if given choice at Exeter, location of pitches is much nicer.

If the ground was bone dry on arrival, we could be tempted by a better located grass pitch.........but not by the idea of committing to grass ahead of time.

You can't really  bypass checking in on any sites (except some CLs where everything is sorted beforehand) even on pre-paid sites like the C&CC system. Someone has to book you in, hand over site details, paperwork etc but you are spared going in to the office or going  back to the office as someone keeps an eye on the pitch you have chosen and relays this to the office. After that the site office knows what is available. At present with CAMC it very much depends on people returning to the ofiice with their pitch number and often no-one marks up pitches which are available. Hopefully this system will be improved?

With the ccc  system of taking the arrival to the pitch ,I would expect  the pitch number to to be relayed to the office ,if they have security barriers ,the arrival still has to go and fetch a numbered barrier card/fob to get in and out ,,also site info,I have yet to be given such when shown to a pitch

Electronic receipts, maps, rules etc......would make sense. Save the odd tree as well. Some Sites print receipt onto a map reverse but not all. And I ‘ve lost count of how many Dog leaflets have been foisted upon us, despite explaining we always have one in MH.

One of the commercial sites I use you just pick up the paperworik off an arrivals board and go to your allocated pitch of the type you booked. This is clearly displayed on the front of the envelope. This is pretty much the same as the last C&CC site I was on except I was given the envelope at the barrier and taken to a pitching area to chose my pitch from those not in use.

I don’t think it would work everywhere, not if you want a grass divide. One that springs to mind is Tewkesbury. Pitches 63 / 70 if converted to HS would definitely need reducing in number, if they were all to be awning. We have had a service pitch opposite on a few occasions and the separation distances are barely maintained, so many pitches have been crammed in.

It should work as the minimum spacing required between grass or HS pitches would be the same.   Where that falls down is that more recently laid down HSs are much wider in our observation, and you are  often asked to ensure everything is on the HS, nothing on the grass.  Makes life easier for the wardens when cutting the grass.

So installing wider HSs means fewer pitches afterwards.    Many HSs are on the small side for today's vans.

I do think that would apply to any sites that have had hardstands installed in the last few years

They certainly note your pitch number. So far all have had key pad barriers, so no need to collect a fob. Code was on the welcome info leaflet we were given on all sites. In most cases we have also been  provided with site info and local information by the pitch guide. It probably depends on how busy they are.

Godrevy is all grass and it drains well but even so by the end of the season it is an eyesore. Awning mats do a lot of damage and when they move the pegs you end up with a muddy patch either side of you. I vowed I would not use it again after the visit this year. A good thing is the increase in non awning pitches since they were first introduced, they might tempt me. They should make even more non awning.

lfracombe is also all grass. I suspect the Club would not get planning permission at either of these sites for hard standings.

Our experience too PD.  Nobody seems to bother to lift groundsheets daily these days, and even on non awning pitches there are often groundsheets laid outside entrance doors, something which is very common abroad and results in bare muddy patches.

We have done this at one or two Club Sites. Our information was all in an envelope, including map showing potentially vacant pitches, when we rolled into Exeter. Pinned to reception door. Easy peasy. It’s the requirement  for barriers on Sites that makes life difficult. A sign of the times sadly.
