Cost of C & MC sites

I chose to book this in the full knowledge that it is expensive, no regrets but worth putting on here anyway.

We tend to use sites in South Dorset in April, while beaches (Sandbanks, Bournemouth etc) are still open for dogs ( I know, I know)

Whilst in the New Forest last week we called at the Centennial site, liked what we saw so booked on line. 12 nights, April 2022 so off season. Full service pitch, 2 adults, 1 dog; 12 nights. £44.36 per night - ouch.

We usually use a commercial site at Lytchett Minster, which for full service, hardstanding, including streamable wifi - £30 per night (April 2020). Other facilities are on a par with CMC sites, except for the dog walk which is a whole field. A non returnable deposit of £50 is required here, but last year we were able to move the booking from April to October  (Covid) at no extra cost.

We wanted a change of scenery so decided to pay the CMC rate, and the location is better than Lytchett, with easy access to the New Forest. Now it could be that Lytchett's prices for next year will be hiked - I don't know.

Not complaining, just dispelling any remaining myths that CMC sites are cheaper for members than comparable commercial sites. Pays your money & takes your choice.

If you are concerned about the cost of nights on a club site why not stay on a CL?

Those that are, seem to. Use CL’s that is. Others seem to accept that the prices are middle of the road, sometimes dearer, sometimes cheaper than commercial alternatives. Particularly if your a solo camper, want to erect an awning, have multiple dogs or children over a certain age, they can work out significantly more expensive. However, none that I know of (at this moment in time) have the generous T&C’s of this club. That to me is worth paying more for than a comparable commercial.

Have you not seen the "complaints" on here about the cost of some CLs as the expectation it seems with minimal overheads that even with nearly the same facilities as a club site , they are these days still expected  to be below £15per a night and some even think that is too muchundecided

Pricing of CLs depends, IMHO, on facilities provided. Some now appear to be trying to provide all the facilities of a 'full fat' club site. Others have remained true to the original concept of 'basic' water, waste and possibly EHU.

I would expect that basic would not be more than £10 or £15 if EHU available. Once those that provide additional facilities start charging around/more than £20, they are starting to compete with 'proper sites'. It may, of course, be because it is being used as a route to 'full commercial' status.

Not quite sure how we got into CL pricing when it's supposed to be about club site prices. My principal gripe with club site prices is being able to find out what they are without having to go through the rigmarole of 'making a booking'.

You don’t have to make a booking. The prices are all there on the site page, just as they would be in a printed booklet.

I think the thing is with CAMC pricing is, as mention earlier, there appears to be scores if different prices, most of which change after a few days (or less) as a result of premiums being added for weekends, bank holidays, school holidays, 'R' in the month etc...

the days of low/medium/high ate obviously things of the past with (literally) every penny being wrung out....yes, as pointed out above, the same pitch can sometimes be just a few pence different at a different time of the year.

while I guess this may be due to 'percentages' being added year on year, it makes for a hugely complex overall structure which doesn't appear customer friendly at all...
