Cost of C & MC sites

I chose to book this in the full knowledge that it is expensive, no regrets but worth putting on here anyway.

We tend to use sites in South Dorset in April, while beaches (Sandbanks, Bournemouth etc) are still open for dogs ( I know, I know)

Whilst in the New Forest last week we called at the Centennial site, liked what we saw so booked on line. 12 nights, April 2022 so off season. Full service pitch, 2 adults, 1 dog; 12 nights. £44.36 per night - ouch.

We usually use a commercial site at Lytchett Minster, which for full service, hardstanding, including streamable wifi - £30 per night (April 2020). Other facilities are on a par with CMC sites, except for the dog walk which is a whole field. A non returnable deposit of £50 is required here, but last year we were able to move the booking from April to October  (Covid) at no extra cost.

We wanted a change of scenery so decided to pay the CMC rate, and the location is better than Lytchett, with easy access to the New Forest. Now it could be that Lytchett's prices for next year will be hiked - I don't know.

Not complaining, just dispelling any remaining myths that CMC sites are cheaper for members than comparable commercial sites. Pays your money & takes your choice.

Are you saying that deposits are to be introduced on the Overseas system ?

if so, then there is already a template for managing them and a migration to this version seems obvious for the UK sites following any 'official' deposits announcement

Even going back to 1987 when I booked my first overseas holiday with the Club there were always deposits with the balance six weeks before departure. I am not sure how the new system differs except, of course, its all online. I think the last time I booked anything via the Club for Europe was in 2009 when I booked a couple of sites in Italy because the currency had changed so much in value year on year I saved quite a lot of money doing it via the Club. However the overseas booking system will be different in quite a few respects. Firstly it won't subject to anywhere near the same level of cancellations as the UK system. Usually any late cancellations are covered by insurance which, thus far at least, is not the same in the UK.

I would have thought it would be a logistical nightmare to apply deposits to existing bookings. Would the system be set up for retrospective deposit taking? I somehow doubt that as it would only be needed initially. I am pretty sure the Club don't have the staff resources to do that manually? So the sensible way forward would be to only apply deposits to new bookings from a particular start date. It might also have a possible advantage to the Club in that the "shock" of deposits being required might be dissipated by a long introduction period?

Certainly would be a nightmare if it’s like the C&CC system, where the card details are not held centrally. I was sent a new credit card recently and as they are currently taking the residual automatically on the morning of arrival, phoned up to inform them. It had to be done separately for each of the four future bookings we had.

Hi Nutsy - read your post  hence my comments. I understand that you accepted the costs however if not happy with them then try CLs in future.
