Cost of C & MC sites

I chose to book this in the full knowledge that it is expensive, no regrets but worth putting on here anyway.

We tend to use sites in South Dorset in April, while beaches (Sandbanks, Bournemouth etc) are still open for dogs ( I know, I know)

Whilst in the New Forest last week we called at the Centennial site, liked what we saw so booked on line. 12 nights, April 2022 so off season. Full service pitch, 2 adults, 1 dog; 12 nights. £44.36 per night - ouch.

We usually use a commercial site at Lytchett Minster, which for full service, hardstanding, including streamable wifi - £30 per night (April 2020). Other facilities are on a par with CMC sites, except for the dog walk which is a whole field. A non returnable deposit of £50 is required here, but last year we were able to move the booking from April to October  (Covid) at no extra cost.

We wanted a change of scenery so decided to pay the CMC rate, and the location is better than Lytchett, with easy access to the New Forest. Now it could be that Lytchett's prices for next year will be hiked - I don't know.

Not complaining, just dispelling any remaining myths that CMC sites are cheaper for members than comparable commercial sites. Pays your money & takes your choice.

Continuing the digression of this thread, I see that some of the papers are saying we should "go dirty" to help the planet. John Wesley said "cleanliness is next to Godliness" but are we overly obsessed with daily showers or perhaps should we all adopt the 'submariners' practice?

Back on the original topic, I'm researching my next trip and C& CC sites are about 60% of the price of CAMC ones.

The original post appeared to me to be about comparing cost of CAMC sites to Commercial sites. IMHO if the sites are in different locations then it is highly likely that there will be a price difference irrespective of what facilities are provided.

For us it’s always about location no matter whom provides the pitch.  I feel one can always find a pitch to suit one’s personal budget though it is not been as easy for a while due to more people camping in the UK.

They would be for us as well but not so much for younger members. The OAP discount makes a significant difference. At least the CAMC mid week discount is available to all. We had 3 nights at a C&CC site in Northumberland in August, when OAP discount does not apply, and if they were giving the VAT discount (which they say they are, although with no price breakdown impossible to prove) the prices were slightly more than a similar CC site.

That's been my findings, too, Steve. Without the age related discount, C&CC tend to be at least as dear as CAMC. I wonder how long before C&CC is attacked for favouring older people?🤔

It seems there several who post on here ,who it seems try? to make this club sound expensive,? compared to what they have been to or what where they are going, it does make one wonder why , if it is so much "cheaper and better?" that it is so difficult as others post to be able to get a pitch on this clubs sites?
