Cost of C & MC sites

I chose to book this in the full knowledge that it is expensive, no regrets but worth putting on here anyway.

We tend to use sites in South Dorset in April, while beaches (Sandbanks, Bournemouth etc) are still open for dogs ( I know, I know)

Whilst in the New Forest last week we called at the Centennial site, liked what we saw so booked on line. 12 nights, April 2022 so off season. Full service pitch, 2 adults, 1 dog; 12 nights. £44.36 per night - ouch.

We usually use a commercial site at Lytchett Minster, which for full service, hardstanding, including streamable wifi - £30 per night (April 2020). Other facilities are on a par with CMC sites, except for the dog walk which is a whole field. A non returnable deposit of £50 is required here, but last year we were able to move the booking from April to October  (Covid) at no extra cost.

We wanted a change of scenery so decided to pay the CMC rate, and the location is better than Lytchett, with easy access to the New Forest. Now it could be that Lytchett's prices for next year will be hiked - I don't know.

Not complaining, just dispelling any remaining myths that CMC sites are cheaper for members than comparable commercial sites. Pays your money & takes your choice.

Ive been on enough this year to see a consistent pattern. One of a similar design at all that we have used, a poor design that sprays too close to the shower itself.

yes, we do use our own shower when on a CL or THS but weve used plenty of club sites this year and the showers are lacking IMHO.

you might like them, no real surprise there, but i just happen to think there are far better ones out there which we have used and that the club's design could be easily improved on.

perhaps you need to get out there and visit some of the better sites around to get a more balanced perspectivesmile

Like I said great to know you do this service for us all smile

I wonder (mathematically) how much is enough to see a pattern. There are over 200 club sites? And I see you haven't said how many recently refurbished ones you've been on? perhaps you should get out there and visit them to get a more balanced perspective? wink

no real surprise...you have to go personal BB? Why? undecided

visit some of the better sites - so you're saying there are better sites out there? no other way to read that is there? But as defined by who though? I mean once again you are defining what is better. Better to you of course but not to others?  You'll notice I don't  do that, I only say people should make their own mind up for themselves and then choose what they like?

Well it would appear that to you a site shower, and indeed the type of head, is really important when visiting a campsite, that is great, we all have such things. To me they are more functional than anything else and even if there are better showers out there to me that is not important in having an enjoyable time, but again they are to you so that is fine too. Happy holidays!

As you know what to expect, BB, why use them then, as no doubt those in your M/H are to your liking, and as you have just said you use your own frequently anyway. It is a shame that you have nothing better to discuss than the state of showers on campsites.

"Assisted" shower cubicles  have/had (it's been a while) a note on them that says something to the tune of .... 'these general use cubicles are modified to help the disabled'

The OP and subject matter concerns pricing, and to me that means the value we all get for those prices we pay.

is it not a customer's prerogative to comment regarding those elements they feel don't come up to scratch?

We are not using them at the moment, but I would also agree that the fixed shower heads are not good, especially when water pressure is low. I do not mind the fixed aspect, but why  can’t they have a directional end piece so you could angle the water towards the centre of the shower.

If the pressure is OK  then I have found the shower water is directed at the centre of the shower tray .,but in some places where the pressure tends to fluctuate it needs the valve open fully,,surprised

On any site that has been upgraded with the standardised it seems new facilities blocks, the water is pumped ?via a tank of water, so I would think as most things, it is a case of evolving to meet modern standardscool
