Cost of C & MC sites

I chose to book this in the full knowledge that it is expensive, no regrets but worth putting on here anyway.

We tend to use sites in South Dorset in April, while beaches (Sandbanks, Bournemouth etc) are still open for dogs ( I know, I know)

Whilst in the New Forest last week we called at the Centennial site, liked what we saw so booked on line. 12 nights, April 2022 so off season. Full service pitch, 2 adults, 1 dog; 12 nights. £44.36 per night - ouch.

We usually use a commercial site at Lytchett Minster, which for full service, hardstanding, including streamable wifi - £30 per night (April 2020). Other facilities are on a par with CMC sites, except for the dog walk which is a whole field. A non returnable deposit of £50 is required here, but last year we were able to move the booking from April to October  (Covid) at no extra cost.

We wanted a change of scenery so decided to pay the CMC rate, and the location is better than Lytchett, with easy access to the New Forest. Now it could be that Lytchett's prices for next year will be hiked - I don't know.

Not complaining, just dispelling any remaining myths that CMC sites are cheaper for members than comparable commercial sites. Pays your money & takes your choice.

Quite a lot isn't being done to move away from the poor fixed shower heads, which are often rocked up and don't give a decent spray.

also, the fixed direction is poor, with the user needing to stand in the trough to get any decent amount of water on them.

by standing a little away from the shower itself, most of the water lands between the user and the wall.

Ive used quite a few sites this year and IMHO (of course) on the whole, not up to what i call a decent standard.

consistent, yes...consistently poor, with all sites ive used following the same (has it ever been tested?) design.

PS Id never use an assisted shower in case someone else coming in after me might require one.

Again only applies to the sites you've been on BB, and from what I recall not that many at all, certainly this year and you do post that experience is the key ? And have you been on some of the more recently refurbished ones? If if you don't like the ones you have used why not use your onboard one - actually I thought you said you always/often did?

Also remember there is a large difference between assisted and disabled, and as you posted upthread you didn't know how many there were or even existed (as you used quotes in the assisted) so perhaps you have used one and didn't notice - they are quite similar.

But good to know you're appraising club showers and passing judgement now too smile (just a joke to pass the time as you posted recently)

Expensive? Just been to Rowntree Park. Try and get 24hr parking for a car, caravan, possibly an awning and with all services and required facilities in the middle of the city for anything close to that price. Impossible!  Even the cheaper hotels can’t compete!

Facilities aren’t really what we book Sites around. We go with location and places of interest first, hence where we are at the moment. We paid good money to be self sufficient in terms of showering and loo in our MH (which is no way as swish or sophisticated as many outfits) but it’s still camping to us. Not interested whatsoever in paying a huge sum of money per night to compare shower fittings or tiles on the wall. I can do that in a cottage, probably for less money per night.

+1

Showers on club sites do me fine and they have certainly significantly improved over the years with some of the newer sites light years so.  Plenty of hot water and clean of course but that is it. I don't need anything else though welcome it is.

I can't see how a  different shower head would affect my stay or shower really.

That’s probably because you are a male with short hair Corners😁 Long hair requires a lot more of a decent spray to get rid of shampoo and conditioner, and if the ruddy outlet is a foot above you, isn’t what you get😂

You have seen me!

And it's even shorter now as it's the start of a new term, although no longer going to school Mrs C does a 'number 2' electric razor shave at the start of every half term.

Ive been on enough this year to see a consistent pattern. One of a similar design on all that we have used, a poor design that sprays too close to the shower itself.

yes, we do use our own shower when on a CL or THS but weve used plenty of club sites this year and the showers are lacking IMHO.

you might like them, no real surprise there, but i just happen to think there are far better ones out there which we have used and that the club's design could be easily improved on.

perhaps you need to get out there and visit some of the better sites around to get a more balanced perspectivesmile

I have short hair now. Had it cut for a big birthday, mainly because two of our cars are open top, and I look like a dragged rat with long hair after a good blow down the motorway😂 Easier in MH as well, less to rinse. I clipped OH before we set off on tour, we are both low maintenance models nowadays.😁
