Cost of C & MC sites

I chose to book this in the full knowledge that it is expensive, no regrets but worth putting on here anyway.

We tend to use sites in South Dorset in April, while beaches (Sandbanks, Bournemouth etc) are still open for dogs ( I know, I know)

Whilst in the New Forest last week we called at the Centennial site, liked what we saw so booked on line. 12 nights, April 2022 so off season. Full service pitch, 2 adults, 1 dog; 12 nights. £44.36 per night - ouch.

We usually use a commercial site at Lytchett Minster, which for full service, hardstanding, including streamable wifi - £30 per night (April 2020). Other facilities are on a par with CMC sites, except for the dog walk which is a whole field. A non returnable deposit of £50 is required here, but last year we were able to move the booking from April to October  (Covid) at no extra cost.

We wanted a change of scenery so decided to pay the CMC rate, and the location is better than Lytchett, with easy access to the New Forest. Now it could be that Lytchett's prices for next year will be hiked - I don't know.

Not complaining, just dispelling any remaining myths that CMC sites are cheaper for members than comparable commercial sites. Pays your money & takes your choice.

PeeDee, here’s another possible for you, it’s just around the corner from Club Site at Knaresborough........

We have stayed, it’s a very nice Site. It was in its first month of opening when we stayed. We used HS area. It now has a purpose built facility block. Owners nice, very accommodating. Not sure on prices at the moment, and for when you wanted to go. If you hint about your route up to Scotland, we might have other suggestions, as we often do Winter tours utilising A1 route?

We have used two Club Sites this tour, on our second as I type. Both comparable prices to CLs, helped of course by the lower VAT rate. We paid £15.49 per night at Exeter Racecourse, now here at Marazion, it’s £16.01 per night, so great value at the moment.

Both good sites and excellent value for money although Exeter has no hot water this weekend - neither has the van thank you intermittent Combi fault!

That’s hard luck SB. We knew about the hot water issue at Exeter, staff phoned us prior to our arrival, but it made no difference to us. Bit more difficult if your boiler in MH is down though. Mind, that old camping trick of a kettle and a strip wash isn’t too hard nowadays. We left yesterday morning having had two great nights. At Marazion now, but we go back to Exeter later this month. Not expecting boiler to be fixed, not sure who does repairs, Club or Racecourse!

Still resort to a strip wash on C&CC sites where no temperature adjustment in shower as they hotter than my back can tolerate after radiotherapy 28 years ago. I am surprised that adjustment is not available in the disabled facilities either.

I’m not a fan of Club Site showers, don’t like overheads prefer a handheld, but given how many get stolen, I can see why Club have fixed heads. I thought they were all adjustable temp though, except with the overheads, you have to do the “too cold, too hot” dance before you get it right. Not an issue at Marazion, there are no facilities😂

Caravan club showers are fine as the temperatures are adjustable it is only the C&CC.

Some sites (not either club) have showerheads fitted to sliding height rails. The heads can also be unclipped for those who prefer hand helds.

in this day and age, at £35-£55 a night, you'd think both clubs would have managed to get towards this standard.

folk often praise the clubs' (both) 'consistency' yet, as others have mentioned, the 'shower experience' is now a long way behind some of the top commercials.

with most club sites only providing a pitch and a shower as their basic amenities for the above fees, surely its time for a revamp of showers across the network?

IMHO (qualified)they are certainly lagging behind top site these day with their (albeit clean) facilities.

I think most Club Sites do have at least one sliding handheld BB. Usually a “modified” cubicle. The heads get stolen though, two went on one of our stays at Yellowcraig back in the early 2000’s. Warden’s weren’t happy. Neither were most of the visitors. So as I say, Club are no doubt wary of providing easily stolen equipment.
