Cost of C & MC sites

I chose to book this in the full knowledge that it is expensive, no regrets but worth putting on here anyway.

We tend to use sites in South Dorset in April, while beaches (Sandbanks, Bournemouth etc) are still open for dogs ( I know, I know)

Whilst in the New Forest last week we called at the Centennial site, liked what we saw so booked on line. 12 nights, April 2022 so off season. Full service pitch, 2 adults, 1 dog; 12 nights. £44.36 per night - ouch.

We usually use a commercial site at Lytchett Minster, which for full service, hardstanding, including streamable wifi - £30 per night (April 2020). Other facilities are on a par with CMC sites, except for the dog walk which is a whole field. A non returnable deposit of £50 is required here, but last year we were able to move the booking from April to October  (Covid) at no extra cost.

We wanted a change of scenery so decided to pay the CMC rate, and the location is better than Lytchett, with easy access to the New Forest. Now it could be that Lytchett's prices for next year will be hiked - I don't know.

Not complaining, just dispelling any remaining myths that CMC sites are cheaper for members than comparable commercial sites. Pays your money & takes your choice.

I cannot help but think the pricing is a website mistake.

Not sure how that follows on from my post or which website has the mistake?

Looks like it will be Shaws Trailer Park instead but I will leave it until nearer the time required..

Just out of interest what's the price difference? And for both Christmas and non Christmas?

They don't appear to have a website or give online prices as you have to send off an email for them?

Post edit - have you read the reviews?

By reading this years review of shawls trailer park  I think the price difference is more than compensated over the Xmas peak period by using Knaresborough club sitesurprisedcool

It seems you are into Christmas/New Year pricing? The week before its about £26. I like the showground site at Harrogate as its got good transport links, shame its closed. It used to be a Club site years ago.

You are right David, I hadn't even considered the Christmas pricing would start so early. All I want is a brief stopover to meet friends on the long haul home from the Borders.

So not that bad I would say? Yes the Christmas holidays would start about then but more importantly is that a lot of people would want to visit towns with Christmas markets, hence the higher prices. did you get any prices?

I still think the price high, I wouldn't pay that not even at Christmas unless there was a very good reason for being there. Christmas Markets usually take place much earlier, Harrogate's is in November but was cancelled this year. By price you are refering to Shaws,? If so, the answer is no, I will phone nearer the time but reviews (yes I have read them) indicate round about the £20 mark.

Nellie did you mean to post a link?

Thanks Nellie, that could be very useful not only in December but also for the future. My eldest grandson is an instructor at the college next door.

There's another decent one that we have used a few times close by too, which has both H/ S and grass pitches. No web site but do have an e-mail address.
