Cost of C & MC sites

I chose to book this in the full knowledge that it is expensive, no regrets but worth putting on here anyway.

We tend to use sites in South Dorset in April, while beaches (Sandbanks, Bournemouth etc) are still open for dogs ( I know, I know)

Whilst in the New Forest last week we called at the Centennial site, liked what we saw so booked on line. 12 nights, April 2022 so off season. Full service pitch, 2 adults, 1 dog; 12 nights. £44.36 per night - ouch.

We usually use a commercial site at Lytchett Minster, which for full service, hardstanding, including streamable wifi - £30 per night (April 2020). Other facilities are on a par with CMC sites, except for the dog walk which is a whole field. A non returnable deposit of £50 is required here, but last year we were able to move the booking from April to October  (Covid) at no extra cost.

We wanted a change of scenery so decided to pay the CMC rate, and the location is better than Lytchett, with easy access to the New Forest. Now it could be that Lytchett's prices for next year will be hiked - I don't know.

Not complaining, just dispelling any remaining myths that CMC sites are cheaper for members than comparable commercial sites. Pays your money & takes your choice.

Not so sure Tinny😁 I tend to go with the Club charging to cover their costs mid week, but pushing the boundaries of what prices they think Members will tolerate the rest of the time, and on as many Sites as they can get away with. They have a willing market at the moment......willing to pay almost anything😂

Obviously they cover their costs mid week but do so by discounting prices on some sites at some times of the year to attract punters - sorry, I mean loyal members😀. The rest of the time they charge the going rate.🙂

Never mind all will be resolved if, as rumoured,  variable pricing like the C&CC  use  is introduced by the Club.

I am not certain how C&CC pricing works exactly.

If you are concerned about the cost of nights on a club site why not stay on a CL?

If that is aimed at the OP (me), you haven't read my post.

Pricing of CLs depends, IMHO, on facilities provided. Some now appear to be trying to provide all the facilities of a 'full fat' club site. Others have remained true to the original concept of 'basic' water, waste and possibly EHU.

I would expect that basic would not be more than £10 or £15 if EHU available. Once those that provide additional facilities start charging around/more than £20, they are starting to compete with 'proper sites'. It may, of course, be because it is being used as a route to 'full commercial' status.

I suspect you are going to see an increasing number of CL's that are basically offering the "Boutique Campsite" experience, full fat facilities but still restricted to 5 units and perhaps you will see the price climbing to perhaps £25/30 a night over time. There are clearly people who would be happy to pay those prices because they want to be in an environment where they are not surrounded by dozens, if not hundreds of other units. I think you can also not ignore the fact that in coming years, if not months, there will be greater wage inflation which will put even more pressure of pitch prices whether it be on a CL or a main Club site. I fear that we are seeing the end of cheap camping and we all need to adjust to that?

From from I've read on the 'rumour forum thread' people aren't too happy with the CCC booking system, it's been mentioned a few times.

Indeed.   I would like my pension payouts to be doubled for a start.

We are OK at the moment with cc site pricing, and as posted , next year maybe our last, with touring for the periods we have enjoyed so far

It will be interesting if some of the changes rumoured to be in the pipeline come about ?   the club will ask for deposits? on sites that many members have already booked? if so this may well be the last year, , as it was already quite stressful when we had to rearrange this tour at short notice, trying to get pitches to keep some continuity

So why is a Friday the same price as (what most folk perceive to be) the 'weekend'?

While most 'weekenders' arrive on a Friday evening after work and then leave on a Sunday morning, the club catches these on both days by hiking (not reducing) the Friday price.

all well and good if Sunday prices are lower, but the club also catches Sunday nighters 'as its the (three day) weekend'.

Just browsing the Hillhead prices and noticed the summer price for a serviced pitch is £54.50!

Approaching Concierge Camping prices, it seems (one for Johnwink)

The C&CC system is OK if everything goes to plan, ie you pay a deposit and you actually honour the booking by turning up at the site. There are even some advantages like being able to find a pitch and book at relative short notice. Where many of the complaints come from is an apparent complete lack of flexibility if things go wrong like moving a deposit to a different time or losing it altogether. I suppose the test for any new CMC  will be whether its considered fair and flexible by members but until we see the details it is difficult to compare.
