Vacation V Staycation Costs

We sadly accepted a while back that our hoped for trip abroad, in May/June, would not be happening and have booked on a two week rally in June-which we are very much looking forward to.

Over the last couple of days I have been looking at options for July/August and wondered how prices compare.

Normally we would go abroad at the times I mention so never look to see how over there compares with here.

Anyway, just looked at the price for a 10 day stay at sites of similar levels of quality and facilities, one in Cornwall and one in the Vendee.

The price for Cornwall, at Pentewan Sands, is £498.10.

The price for France at La Yole via the club and including a BF overnight crossing with cabin is £488.36

We don't go 'over there' to save money but its another example to show that considering 'going' as opposed to 'staying' need not cost a lot more.

Nothing secret about it....even Germany bucked the trend and went elsewhere along with Spain, Hungary etc...it was all over the press, even buying vaccine from Russia undecided

But monsieur Macron is still in the running for best loved president  laughing

"New statistics revealed that half of all adults in the country would refuse the jab following scaremongering from French President Emmanuel Macron about the Astrazeneca vacine."

doesnt look as though the French are going to provide much incentive to encourage us to spend our pennies over there even if it is cheaper than over here laughing

Now't as strange as people, here we are in a pandemic with countries losing control of it, vaccines being the best hope but not conclusive in their efficacy and holidaying abroad is a priority.......what a sad lot.

Not me, gave up on the idea for this year at least, a long time ago, but, we consider ourselves very fortunate that we have easy access to some very nice areas of coastline countryside , and a family Beach House within 10 mins of home, some are probably not as fortunate, so i can understand the reasoning for wanting to get away, but as you say "not in the middle of a pandemic with countries losing control of it"undecided

One of the reasons that Germany (they advise) had a big increase in cases was that their schools had reopened ,

Watch the next couple of weeks in the UK ,if what has been seen in this area in the last week as testing? in schools has shown they are negative? so there is no need to take precautions( ie what social distancing?)

Indeed. Related to the facility opening thread as well. Some folks have difficult to understand priorities. Afraid holidays of any kind are not top priority in this household.
I don’t have issues with anyone going overseas this year. But I do with them coming back, and bringing back yet another round of lockdown and instability. If it could be guaranteed that everyone who ventures out of UK is made to quarantine (at their own expense) and it could be vigorously policed, then ‘bye, have a good time. But there’s as much chance of that as a day trip to the Moon.
I would put keeping our case rates in control on this island before anything. That way lies keeping our general population overall safer, our medical facilities from being overwhelmed, our still vulnerable from dying, and might keep our children in school and get some stability for our own businesses and industry. It’s patently obvious that there’s yet another wave of infection spreading across some European countries, for whatever reasons, but holding firm on overseas travel, anywhere, is the way to go. Much later in year hopefully for those desperate to head overseas, but Europe ain’t looking too good at the moment. We might have all on coping with any new variants as well. It’s hard, very hard for those who love overseas, but it’s about the wider community and our own country first for me.

Strange and sad that some feel the need to criticise others for something that has not actually been mentioned-not aware of anyone saying a holiday was a priority.

Many would like to be able to but it’s simple, until we are allowed to and decide it’s safe for us, it ain’t happening for any of us but most don’t feel the need for constant negativity.

Try being selfless and along with 'decide it's safe for us', think also about am I safe for others.

The fact is, A&J, that holidays are a priority for many. You only have to read the posts on this forum to realise that. Over the months people have stated they'll go come what may and without insurance in some cases. That certainly isn't giving holidays a low priority and I'm surprised you, unlike Meth, haven't realised there are skewed ideas around.
