Vacation V Staycation Costs

We sadly accepted a while back that our hoped for trip abroad, in May/June, would not be happening and have booked on a two week rally in June-which we are very much looking forward to.

Over the last couple of days I have been looking at options for July/August and wondered how prices compare.

Normally we would go abroad at the times I mention so never look to see how over there compares with here.

Anyway, just looked at the price for a 10 day stay at sites of similar levels of quality and facilities, one in Cornwall and one in the Vendee.

The price for Cornwall, at Pentewan Sands, is £498.10.

The price for France at La Yole via the club and including a BF overnight crossing with cabin is £488.36

We don't go 'over there' to save money but its another example to show that considering 'going' as opposed to 'staying' need not cost a lot more.

I am so hoping that overseas holidays can commence safely as soon as possible.😁

We are booked for France latter part of August but the way the cases are rising in Germany Poland and Italy into a third wave we are`nt exactly banking on it.

I am afraid you have lost me there. My point was that I don't see CLs in most cases as a fair comparison for even the the basic French municipal and a fairer comparison would be club sites that provide the same basic facilities, shower blocks toilet EHU etc

And tell me David, How many different CLs and Municipal Sites and come to think of it CAMC sites have you actually stayed on in the last 5 years to make this comparison?

I have actually stayed on far, far more than you have in all 3 categories and you are quite wrong about Cls and Municipal sites, at least the ones that I have actually experienced, say well over 100 in the years I've been going to France. CLs in the UK? About 15 a year, 90% of which are new to me, so about 200 in the last 20 years give or take.

So if I make a comparison on prices I tend to know what facilities and standards I am talking about. Besides which you seem to have missed the fact that I wasn't actually complaining about price differentials, merely pointing out my experiences.

If we were talking about price I have conveniently overlooked tolls and extra fuel but I'm not the one splitting hairs.

Fact - It's going to cost more by going abroad.

Fact - It's worth it.

I guess you'll just have to disagree with me.

I am not sure I see a comparison between CL's and Municipals either? Admittedly I don't use many CL's simply because they are usually, but not exclusively, in the middle of nowhere. On the other hand in the last 30 or so years I have used dozens of French Municipals. The only direct link is pricing which seems similar and if you have facilities I suspect CL's are more expensive? French Municipals are nearly always close to town which is a major advantage to us. In that way I can see a loose comparison with Club sites although I am of the view that few Municipals I have used match Club sites on quality.

This is in driving distance. The club used it in their overseas brochure with my permission of course

How far do you have to drive to get there? It looks a bit like Crantock beach to me and we can be there,  door to door, in about 3 hours! smile

About 15 minutes from a first class site we have used many times and the club has since added to  its stable of advance booking for those that wantwink

WN, It may have escaped you but the whole point of my OP was that I had presumed it would be more expensive but it may not be.

The route to the site I quote is toll free. From my home it’s well over the mileage to La Yole get to many popular parts of UK to holiday

However, Yes, it is worth it-if not why are we doing it?

I agree about staying in the UK for the present, but sadly I think it is nigh on impossible to find the quality of vacation we normally get across the water, here in the UK.

Then you will be a disappointed camper this year. On the upside you’ll have more money👍🏻. Let’s hope the break up from our European cousins doesn’t have Brit Vehicles blockaded in the ports. . .Like the Trucks☹️
