Vacation V Staycation Costs

We sadly accepted a while back that our hoped for trip abroad, in May/June, would not be happening and have booked on a two week rally in June-which we are very much looking forward to.

Over the last couple of days I have been looking at options for July/August and wondered how prices compare.

Normally we would go abroad at the times I mention so never look to see how over there compares with here.

Anyway, just looked at the price for a 10 day stay at sites of similar levels of quality and facilities, one in Cornwall and one in the Vendee.

The price for Cornwall, at Pentewan Sands, is £498.10.

The price for France at La Yole via the club and including a BF overnight crossing with cabin is £488.36

We don't go 'over there' to save money but its another example to show that considering 'going' as opposed to 'staying' need not cost a lot more.

The last time I went to France the Ferry Red Pennat and road tolls cost me a lot more than £498.10. In fact the road tolls cost me more than I paid for my car tax in this country which at the time was £185.

This September for the length of time we will be there, those costs are likely to work out at £32 a night. Most of it the ferry. I just hope we get the chance to spend it.😀

I'm one of those who  always prefers to have good holiday weather and the one certainty in this country is you cannot depend on the weather. The fact you had good weather last September does not mean you can expect the same this September.

Wearing the correct clothing does not improve a grey sky.

And i was in Spain Easter 2019, when all the Easter Parades were cancelled, the area we were in was flooded completely, thankfully not the site, and read up on the Mar Menor , it is still highly polluted as a result of the violent storms of 2019. Was watching a tv programme only last week were it showed whole olive groves in France washed out and ruined as a result of storms, yup agree the likes of Spain do get better weather than the UK, but have a daughter that has lived there for 10 years and this is the worst winter she can recall

Wearing your bathers and shades does not make the sun come out laughing

Yes we have used Cherbourg and a turn right would probably have ended in the seawink

Just checked it was Le Harve when we did the real "free spirit" thingsmile

undecided I seem to remember a turn right would lead a MHer to a free aires with free MH service point and safe parking for the night all within easy walking distance of harbour side restaurants for the evening meal and a selection of boulangerie for the mornings fresh baguette, croissants, and / or pain au chocolat.

I'm with you about grey skies. That's how we discovered that two seats on a plane to Thailand cost rather less than a cabin on a ferry to Spain, but takes half the time, and that beachfront huts on the islands are about the same price as campsites.  I just hope I can go again. Staycation has no appeal.

Agreed - I think you have to go further afield than you can by road to get blue skies and beaches like this!

But I'm equally at home,  and enjoy cloudy days in the lakes! smile

All I am seeing is a grey square, I don't need to go anywhere to see that colour of sky.   laughing

Edit. It's finally change to blue!!
