Vacation V Staycation Costs

We sadly accepted a while back that our hoped for trip abroad, in May/June, would not be happening and have booked on a two week rally in June-which we are very much looking forward to.

Over the last couple of days I have been looking at options for July/August and wondered how prices compare.

Normally we would go abroad at the times I mention so never look to see how over there compares with here.

Anyway, just looked at the price for a 10 day stay at sites of similar levels of quality and facilities, one in Cornwall and one in the Vendee.

The price for Cornwall, at Pentewan Sands, is £498.10.

The price for France at La Yole via the club and including a BF overnight crossing with cabin is £488.36

We don't go 'over there' to save money but its another example to show that considering 'going' as opposed to 'staying' need not cost a lot more.

Last year, following the June deferment, I'd hoped to travel around May/June this year. As things stand at the moment, even a late summer/early autumn one looks a bit iffy. Looks like 2021 is going to be an 'over there' write-off like last year. frown

Then you will be a disappointed camper this year. On the upside you’ll have more money👍🏻. Let’s hope the break up from our European cousins doesn’t have Brit Vehicles blockaded in the ports. . .Like the Trucks☹️

Think you are mixing issues around our exit from the EU and peoples concerns over safe travel, in relation to Covid, but my feeling is we will, if we wish, be able to travel by the summer.

We could all be masquerading as, in general, more senior members of society but if not we are but a small concern for the industry as summer approaches.

The expectations then will be that accomodation will be at full capacity and the prices will be at their highest and family accomodation is what will be bring in the most money.

BF have said that Brits account for 85% of their passengers and this is just one example of many that show our business is wanted and wanted as soon as possible.

Its then for us to decide if we feel it will be safe for ourselves.

I hope you are right A&J👍🏻. I’ve been passing my time following the experts like Dr John Campbell & colleaugues they are happy to confirm we’ll be ok in the UK but European travel they’re sceptical. I want to travel too, I miss it but I’m tempering my desire. I’m mixing issues as I know they are connected. However you are correct & I don’t want to introduce thread drift so I’ll leave it👍🏻

The CEO of BF recently emphasised the point about their dependence on passenger traffic when although thanking the freight users for their continued support  said "useful though it has been we are primarily a holiday company" (I paraphrase slightly).  However back to the decision  about travel  we wouldn't hesitate to go if we are allowed. We are vaccinated and an outdoor sojourn in the Landes forests holds no fears for us.

We will certainly be going if allowed in September. Assuming we don’t have to quarantine there on arrival, or here in a hotel at £1700 on return. Quarantine at home wouldn’t put us off.

Austria and a few others saying some countries have been given more than their fare per capita share and also accusing other EU countries of going outside the EU to sign secret deals.

It is looking that way. On 12th March France had 25000 new cases. Even if that was the peak if suggests they are at least two months behind the UK plus also a pretty abysmal vaccination record. It is not looking good for 2021? Whilst I admire the optimism of those that seem convinced they will still get away this year there has to be a massive improvement in the situation before that becomes a reality?

Nothing secret about it....even Germany bucked the trend and went elsewhere along with Spain, Hungary etc...it was all over the press, even buying vaccine from Russia undecided

But monsieur Macron is still in the running for best loved president  laughing

"New statistics revealed that half of all adults in the country would refuse the jab following scaremongering from French President Emmanuel Macron about the Astrazeneca vacine."

doesnt look as though the French are going to provide much incentive to encourage us to spend our pennies over there even if it is cheaper than over here laughing
