What Next ?

I don't think it has been a good 6 months for the Caravan Club.

First of all we had the farce of COTY that was enough to put off anyone thinking of taking up caravanning. And not forgetting, of course, how to take a caravan up an impossible muddy bank so that you can remove the back end in the process.

Then there was the magazine change to the unreadable waste paper that it now is.

This was followed by the change to the website that is acknowledged as being pathetic and not fit for purpose - but with no apparent 'repairs' to it other than a very rapid change of club name.

Finally the debacle of the name change, logo change and enormous expense incurred for no benefit, a topic that has really got members back's up.

It's hard to imagine what the next fiasco will be but I guess there will be one.

“Like David I'd be interested in hearing more of your ideas, keep 'em coming!”

Yet more “new ideas” is the last thing we need at the moment,

Sort out the current mess first.

If you’re in a hole, stop digging!

There is actually a striking similarity between the new Club logo and the original pennon which was made to represent the Club in 1907 - this is where the inspiration for the new logo came from1.  I guess this precedes the Walls logo.

The original pennon was 2 C's (one reversed) with a V intertwined in the middle (the V stood for motorvehicle - they had the foresight to understand that caravans would eventually and universally be towed by cars instead of horses).  The new logo is 2 separated C's (one reversed) with an M in the middle and more modern looking.  I thought it was quite a clever idea basing it on the 1907 pennon, but personally I would have made it a bit bigger.  Unfortunately I don't have a separate photo of the original pennon - I found it on a National Motor Museum document.  If I find a way of extracting it from the document I'll post it up.

You really have to be joking, there are no similarities between the 1907 logo and the latest one. There is more of a similarity with the Walls one as previously stated.

Please stop trying to defend the new logo and just accept the fact that a lot of members don't like it and are extremely angry at the way the club has conducted itself.

I would like to know if the club intend to replace the sites that have been lost and keep adding new sites in the future.

Is your opinion so much better than his that he should stop expressing it!

There is nothing wrong with saying you like or dislike something but to try and justify the new logo by making out it is similar to the 1907 logo is just grasping at straws. the main point of my post was that in order to move forward the club must accept that many members are unhappy by the way they went about the changes. Once the club acknowledge this we can get on with trying to halt the loss of club sites and the adding of new ones. To add to the present collection of sites will require money and this is not helped by the wasting (as many see it) of probably over £1m on a new name and logo without consultation.

I have stated on other threads that I don't have a problem with the name but I think the new logo is bad and is most definitely a waste of cash. It would be interesting to know just how much was spent on this and how much is earmarked to try and procure new sites. I am assuming that the club do intend to try and add new sites. I would argue this fits in with the title of this thread "what next"

My goodness that's angry!

The point is that we are all entitled to our opinions and no one should be told to stop expressing them by an ordinary poster with no authority.

Again 'willie', irrespective of someone's reasoning behind their opinion it is just that, their opinion with as much right to express it as you have.

My opinion is I'm happy and its fine and dandy, I can live with it as I can with anything else the 'Club' has changed. That is until the 'Club' doesn't suit my needs anymore in which case I will look elsewhere, there is no ruling that means you have to be a lifelong member you can move on whenever it is not suitable for you.

It's great to know that folk are interested enough to express a variety of views...... as they say: 'There's only one thing worse than being talked about - that's not being talked about!'  At least it's been a talking point.

I still think what we now ought to do is to channel our energy into making suggestions in order to flesh out or help shape those buzz words which the Chairman and Director General revealed with the rebranding.  I have already started to take notes from this and other threads - ideas to move forward and especially to attract younger folk to the Club.

It is so easy to sit on our laurels answer to accept things 'because they've always been done that way'.  It is my belief that any group or organisation should try to experiment with change.  Unless we try different things we won't know the effect of those different things and will live in danger of not making progress.   I would hope that the Club would not become a relic and eventually die.  This is our chance to help shape the future of the Club Together with this rebranding.  So 'What Next....'

We joined purely for cheaper access to Club Sites, and the wonderful network of diverse CLs. Once we head overseas, then no doubt we shall take glance at what the Club offers in terms of helpful services. We have used the insurance in the past, but have got better prices and services elsewhere recently.

Club has to move forwards, or risk stagnating. In terms of "what next", I expect the Club will be repeating the COTY initiative, but it will only help the image transformation if a different format of challenges are used, and there are children, young couples, greater diversity of participants. The folks who took part last time were all nice people I am sure, but some of them were expected to take part in stuff that would never happen normally as part of their touring lifestyle, and families, very young couples were not represented at all. All very off putting for prospective new members. It was painful enough for most existing members!
