What Next ?

I don't think it has been a good 6 months for the Caravan Club.

First of all we had the farce of COTY that was enough to put off anyone thinking of taking up caravanning. And not forgetting, of course, how to take a caravan up an impossible muddy bank so that you can remove the back end in the process.

Then there was the magazine change to the unreadable waste paper that it now is.

This was followed by the change to the website that is acknowledged as being pathetic and not fit for purpose - but with no apparent 'repairs' to it other than a very rapid change of club name.

Finally the debacle of the name change, logo change and enormous expense incurred for no benefit, a topic that has really got members back's up.

It's hard to imagine what the next fiasco will be but I guess there will be one.

I'd be really interested in any more ideas that folk have for the future development of the Club - especially what we can do to encourage younger couples and families.  Of course, we should do this at the same time as fulfilling the needs of current members.  It would be really useful to have some more positive suggestions in addition to those which have already been discussed.

Hi everyone,

I've removed the off topic posts from this thread. I'm enjoying reading about why you joined the Club and your thoughts on how we can offer more.

Like David I'd be interested in hearing more of your ideas, keep 'em coming!

Re the Baltic Wharf site,

I think there is now some uncertainty about the original plan for a school. So if the council don't want it for their use, perhaps the CAMC could buy it. Expensive, yes very. However, at least it will show a guaranteed return, and please a lot of people, which is more than can be said for the rebrand.

It would also be a valuable asset, as land in that area is unlikely to go down in value anytime soon.

How can we overcome the facts that, generally, younger people will be at work Monday to Friday and their children at school these same days except for holidays? I don't think we can. This means that that category of members can only 'caravan' at weekends resulting in very full sites Friday and Saturday nights. Only more pitches/sites will alleviate this and to stop pitches being taken out of use because they are waterlogged or churned up many more pitches must be converted to hard standing. Unless this is done there is no real advantage in tinkering around the edges of what we already have. Spend money where it is really needed.

This site is consistently full, also Rowntree Park in York. It might indicate that convenient sites near city centres are a great draw. I don't know the age range of users, possibly retirees make up the majority?

I really dont like the name change or the logo but why not split into a caravan section and a motorhome section like the other Club have? I travel a lot overseas and the requirements if motorhomers are totally different to those of caravanners. I dont care where the nearest shop is or where the nearest bus stop/cycke lane is. I use the car. The overseas Tours could be more competitavely priced as there would be no need to hire coaches etc as we would use our own cars! I have nothing against  aravans or motorhomes but feel that they are totally different beasts and this will benefit no one!

In reality, W1, there's no change.

By 'other club' do you mean C&CC? If so, they have not split into two parts. There might be a MH section as there is a boating and a folk section which are all additional social sections members may join if they wish but the main club is inclusive of all people with all types of units.

On the whole caravanners and motorhomers have the same needs - a decent pitch, EHU, facility block, water, CDP. Sorry, but I can't agree that they are 'totally different beasts'.

Having had both I agree 100% with TW.

Caravans and MH's are not totally different beasts. Together with our Trailer Tent friends and Tenters we are all Campers.

The C@CC are totally inclusive with all units welcome at all events , sites and meets.

As already said where sites are proving to be popular maybe converting some grass pitches on those to hard standings would be a way forward to keep more pitches in use for all members during our unreliable weather rather than taking grass pitches out of use.  Also maybe even look to see if there are any more sites which could be profitable if kept open all year round.

Hi

going back to how to encourage younger members with children I have said before it is in my eyes wrong for a club to increase prices at school holiday periods, If it is a club then it should not follow all other commercial holiday organization and increase prices over school holiday times. To me it is just taking advantage of club members.

come on be different you can afford it now you are closing all the wonderful cheap sites, we if we want to continue with the club are being forced to use the more expensive sites not a philosophy Iexpect from a club.
