What Next ?

I don't think it has been a good 6 months for the Caravan Club.

First of all we had the farce of COTY that was enough to put off anyone thinking of taking up caravanning. And not forgetting, of course, how to take a caravan up an impossible muddy bank so that you can remove the back end in the process.

Then there was the magazine change to the unreadable waste paper that it now is.

This was followed by the change to the website that is acknowledged as being pathetic and not fit for purpose - but with no apparent 'repairs' to it other than a very rapid change of club name.

Finally the debacle of the name change, logo change and enormous expense incurred for no benefit, a topic that has really got members back's up.

It's hard to imagine what the next fiasco will be but I guess there will be one.

but if the exodus to the other club does become more than just a few, then there is a real issue on management here.

It is strange that you define Exodus, as currently a few !  An exodus usually refers to a mass departure of people, are you in politics? news reading?wink

That's quite a big if in your sentence, but of course there no 'evidence' what so ever that if is or will ever happen, unless you call one or two people saying they know someone who is leaving or they themselves are leaving (for quite good reasons) on here as evidence? The reality is that sites are fullish over peak and more than one or two complaining that they can't get pitches. see page 8 of booking a pitch just posted today:

Can I book a pitch in Shropshire/Worcester????

Can I heck as like

many of the sites will be booked up during the summer months.

Shropshire? The club don't own a site here anymore, Corners, not since Much Wenlock disappeared. The 3 current sites are all AS sites, which is not what I want from this club. I can find Independent sites all by myself thank you. I want them to invest in new sites. If they can't build then buy suitable ones.

Of course pitches are full. There are less of them to choose! How many pitches have been reduced in Yorkshire because someone decided to carry out refurbishment on 3, or was it 4, of them at the same time!

Suffolk? Forget Mildenhall.

Next? Bristol, Bromyard Downs and Wincanton.

So why are the club just allowing AS sites access to us lot instead of providing sites themselves?

Sure, it doesn't affect me too much as I tend to use CLs, but having been a member for 27 years I hate to see it mismanaged, which IMHO, it is.

I agree with your sentiments as I've been a member of 18, and you mention some good examples but I'm still staying in great sites despite the main gripes of this thread which is all to do with stuff that doesn't affect what happens on sites.

There would be an increase in the number of pitches available if this Club would invest and take shares in existing sites and CLs which need capital to grow. That's how small businesses are regularly financed. Ever watched Dragons Den?

Maybe because it's much more difficult than people think to acquire land for new sites and even more difficult to get planning permission. I see no issue with AS sites. The Club get a fee for including them in the site directory and members usually get a small discount. No one is forced to use them? Seems a win, win to me?

there are actually only 2 sites shut in Yorkshire Knaresborough and Wharfedale but as Castleton is shut too that means less spaces so all others are full

For somebody in a reasonable job that might be twice their wage. For some 3 times. My debt at 23 was 4 tines my income before tax and so I assume that £30k does not include mortgage

Don't forget Hawes is only partially open and has no toilet block or MH service point. This will add to the shortage.

In Feb. this year we would have normally gone to either Castleton or Hawes for a week but neither were available due to refurbishment work. In the end we went to the CCC site at Keswick and had a great week... smile

Brilliant site, in fact there are 2 within a short walk of Keswick and both are highly recommended.
