What Next ?

I don't think it has been a good 6 months for the Caravan Club.

First of all we had the farce of COTY that was enough to put off anyone thinking of taking up caravanning. And not forgetting, of course, how to take a caravan up an impossible muddy bank so that you can remove the back end in the process.

Then there was the magazine change to the unreadable waste paper that it now is.

This was followed by the change to the website that is acknowledged as being pathetic and not fit for purpose - but with no apparent 'repairs' to it other than a very rapid change of club name.

Finally the debacle of the name change, logo change and enormous expense incurred for no benefit, a topic that has really got members back's up.

It's hard to imagine what the next fiasco will be but I guess there will be one.

Why spend money on rebranding when some sites need updating. Because of price increases we are joining the Camping and Caravan Club so we have other options. April has seen price hypes for all of the month and not just Easter period, so we will not be paying the ridiculous price per night.

What is sad, is the slightly head in the sand attitude of some members  'Never mind that will leave more pitches for us" etc.

All very funny I'm sure, but if the exodus to the other club does become more than just a few, then there is a real issue on management here.

Someone has said, - quite rightly I believe, that this has not been a good period for the club!   And I would suggest that that is a true statement!  What on earth are the board playing at? Why all of this sudden upheaval?    Again some will say "what upheaval, - as long as I get a pitch I don't care".

Fine I suppose, if getting your pitch is all that matters, but I would have thought that in the long run it is in everyones interest that the CC thrives for those that will follow on.

What I do is as yet undecided but the other club does get more attractive as time passes.

I'll nibble.... that is all very well and good Corners, but it is loss of revenue to the Club not only in subscriptions but in use of services. I know someone else who has done the same and while they have retained CMC membership in the short term, the majority of away day expenditure this year is not with the CMC.

Its not all tenters joining the "Friendly Club"

We know that caravans and motor caravans as well as trailer tents, are welcome in the ccc but as their core buisiness is tents and the "cool" thing to do for young  families mostly it seems because its costs about 75% cheaper to set up and keep ,and with their far larger network of sites taking tents, then the cc have a very steep uphill struggle to compete, and the latest ,rebrand has not helped

I'm a member of the other club currently and whilst there are things about the booking system I don't like they are yet to irritate me to the extent this club does.

It really is down to the insurance price and the ease of booking for me.

They may as well have said during the rebrand 'We don't know what the new generation of explorers look like but we know it's not JayEss'.

I spotted someone saying that the chairman wasn't aware of negativity about the rebrand because he doesn't read CT.  That's fair enough but he should jolly well be asking for a report on comments made - both for and against. Or perhaps there's an instruction that only good news gets reported upwards.

To be frank the other club is no better to me just different. It does not major on tents, though although you will find them mixed in on most sites. It is also losing sites, although not as many, but it had less to start with. It does have a franchise system which seems to work well and the club should be looking at this as an alternative to the AS sites which seem to be no more than a revenue stream and a pretence that there are more club sites than there are.

Joining any camping club is such an old fashioned concept that it's safe to say that neither club is cool

I agree but Camping in tents for young families on ever tighter budgets seems to be the cool thing now,or the sensible ones anyway ,not sure about, the "must have everything sod the expence"families,in the old days it used to be "keeping up with the Joneses"

I noticed too that price is Hyped for all of this month i would have gone away today but not paying peak season rates now as well as at Easter I not get any member benefits from the club as they wont insure me but the problem with other other club is they only have 1 site here in Yorkshire whereas CMC has lots one in particular I can't go to as it's always full so looks like I'm stuck here ,commercial sites are no good to me as it's usually all in one price caravan 2 adults 2 kids for X number of pounds being single it can be dear ,but if a lot of folk are as unhappy as everyone says they are the majority are putting up with it you only have to look on Late availability for Easter to see how many sites are FULL !!!

This would be the same chairman that thought the COTY was a wonderful advert for the Caravan Club, isn't it? If he's not being kept in the loop then whose fault is that? The same chairman that blamed Savills for trying to "sell" off our sites or at least encourage it? It beggars belief. At a time when we're being regaled from all sides to "Accept the majority" decision in all walks of life, he prefers to ignore what the members have said and are saying

I know that the club relies on Facebook for its feedback so why bother having this forum? He likes to champion the numbers game and we are often quoted in the mag and on the website as being an integral part of the club but if he can't be bothered to find out what the clubs members think about major policy changes from all social media sites then he shouldn't be running this large organisation.
