Is it a rip off?

Hi I have a rant to get off my chest

Just booked a site for 21 nights for an eye watering £540!   After I got back on my feet I was informed that Caravan and Motor home club have increased their Easter fees this week two weeks early.  Why I ask. even the management were embarrassed and thought it were shocking.

I spent 5 nights last week on a fabulous caravan and camping club site in heart of Northumberland with all the facilities and with over 60s discount £8 pn!

After only just re-joining I cannot  see the benefits of staying with  C&M club prices are beyond out reach.

Since you ask.  The IoD gives a reduced membership rate to all its retired members.  As a retired fellow I pay only about 10% of the annual fee and benefit from substantially reduced prices for other benefits 😉.

Would I be right in thinking that 10% of the membership fee of IoD is somewhere on a par with, of even more than, CAMC membership?

Membership from £640 for IOD makes CAMC seem a real bargain.😀

Ryan Air, Easy Jet and other Easy businesses, virtually every hotel chain often supported by the likes of Lastminute.com, etc, etc.  I'm sure if you think about it you could come up with others such as Brittany Ferries, and Euro Tunnel.

Just a snippet from the DG in the latest magazine suggesting more of us try the "simpler" sites and noting that due to fewer pitches they are more of a financial challenge to keep open. I'm all for simpler sites. I would imagine half empty big sites are also quite a challenge so I don't expect we'll see much change in pricing (or much change in our pockets. wink)

have to careful with the can't afford club site prices though, they then post they are going away over there and spending £50 per day or getting a new car/MH? What they really mean I'd rather spend my money on something else?

I really can't imagine any other large club, for example a golf club shall we say, having directors who would do a similar approach of keeping prices down for their 'poorer long term retired members' who can no longer afford the fees? Does this happen? do they keep the increases below inflation or to keep the business/club  running?I have no idea really, if I knew an ex director I'd ask.

who has specifically said they are 'going over there and paying £50 a night' or getting a new car/MH...

my quotes were from an earlier post in this thread and I didn't get the impression that the poster would be doing what you suggest.

BTW, i was a director of our golf club for a fair few years and we did set senior membership fees at a lower rate, despite many of them being able to play more often than some who work all week.

IIRC, there was even a 'super senior' rate for very long standing members who had reached 'a grand age'.
