Is it a rip off?

Hi I have a rant to get off my chest

Just booked a site for 21 nights for an eye watering £540!   After I got back on my feet I was informed that Caravan and Motor home club have increased their Easter fees this week two weeks early.  Why I ask. even the management were embarrassed and thought it were shocking.

I spent 5 nights last week on a fabulous caravan and camping club site in heart of Northumberland with all the facilities and with over 60s discount £8 pn!

After only just re-joining I cannot  see the benefits of staying with  C&M club prices are beyond out reach.

We decide on an area we want to visit, then look at sites that offer us value for our money. What is provided, and what we value may not be the same. Varies from area to area, from season to season, and if we are using van or MH. Lots of variables. Luckily Club also provides a variety of site types, but they don’t get our exclusive use. 😁

But this time of the year, when it's warming up should be a good time for visitors if the prices are attractive?

I don't know about you Brue but I don't look for an area with cheaper sites to book, Iook at sites in the area I want to be

That was just part of a comment EasyT, the main one being that there is spare capacity on sites all over the uk just now and I will continue to wonder if a few price reductions might bring more bookings? However if there  are only a limited number of van owners maybe there is too much capacity and perhaps running all these sites is going to cost more to keep them going when half full? There are various ways of looking at price increases. smile

Mid week discounts are quite popular at FM which at W/ends they are normally not required ,so  may be it could be extended to more sites if they are in need of extra incomesurprised

"The only way for these folk is the club to lower it's prices? why should it do that?"

i was suggesting that the club could slow the rate of increases to be more in line with other known measures....not lowering prices after the event.

i don't complain about my 'lot' either, but I can at least see that it's becoming a problem for some as this topic is a recurring one.

for those who admit to finding it difficult (or even as honestly as 'I can't afford club site prices') is a brave thing to do on a public forum, and to be dismissed in the way some do on here is a bit 'harsh' in my book.

however, just add it to the list of (complementary) differences between you and I.wink

have to careful with the can't afford club site prices though, they then post they are going away over there and spending £50 per day or getting a new car/MH? What they really mean I'd rather spend my money on something else?

I really can't imagine any other large club, for example a golf club shall we say, having directors who would do a similar approach of keeping prices down for their 'poorer long term retired members' who can no longer afford the fees? Does this happen? do they keep the increases below inflation or to keep the business/club  running?I have no idea really, if I knew an ex director I'd ask.

Perhaps CC Ltd should introduce a flexible dynamic pricing model.

I must agree that Caravan club sites are grossly overpriced I( have been with the club since 1978 and used a lot of rallies which was great for my children and a fair price. Now just the 2 of us i find that i cannot afford the club fees. The only thing that we benefit from are the Cl's.

Would have expected better after paying £50 membership fees

Posted on 26/04/2019 16:44

so are you saying because you have used the club for a long time you expect a lower price?

I am going to write to Canon, I bought my first AE1 in 1981 and bought them ever since. I think I deserve lower price increases on the latest models.

But you have answered your own question without that membership fee you wouldn't get CLs?

As I said, Steve, we've had this conversation before and for that reason I’m not going to continue other than to ask that you please don’t create the impression that we're some remote backwater which is so difficult to reach as, in many parts and from many areas, that is simply not the case.

Posted on 26/04/2019 17:05

Not sure where you came up with the impression I was referring to Cornwall as a backwater TW. It is a fact of geography that it is a large peninsula. Also a fact that it does not have the large cities present in other parts of the country, or a large resident population. As a result sites at this time of year show high availability at weekends. There just isn't the population close by for folk to travel after work, as happens at sites in this part of the world. At Clumber recently and Chatsworth at least a third of the Friday arrivals were after 5pm.

It's either that or folk do think they are to expensive.😉
