How does this Club compare with the ‘Other’?

I’ve started this discussion to try and collect together any direct comparisons between CC and C&CC.

One mentioned several times is that C&CC charge deposits with bookings, whereas CC does not. In that same discussion, it was mentioned that the C&CC membership was larger than CC’s, which surprised me. Can anyone provide the stats?

What other factual differences can be identified?

One night bookings are very useful when you are travelling long distances and just need a rest for the night. We used both clubs for one night stays last year but the C & CC is more limited due to their minimum stay restrictions on some sites.

Write your comments here...That's because you have a motorhome, brue. One night stays are much more hassle with a caravan especially with a full sized awning plus side annexes!

...but as Brue says, of travelling a long way, even folk with caravans need to pull in for the night, dont they?

either way, i cant imagine anyone would mess about with an awning (and side annexes!) if just stopping for the night......even you MHappy

of course, many folk travel much further than Brighton to Littlehampton...

Id put your 'travelling patterns' at the rarer end of members' typical itinerariesUndecided

Write your comments here...That's right, BB. If it's just one or two nights, we don't bother with the awning but it does mean managing in a more cramped space. It's not just the job of putting up the awning, you also have to lay the awning carpet and assemble all the awning furniture including our larder with shelves, plus two ring electric hob that sits on top of it, the folding coffee table, the picnic table with built in seats, the two relaxers, folding chairs, inner tents etc. It's like setting up an entire home. You need to spend a minimum of three nights in one place to make all that worthwhile.

Malcolm...If it is a problem doing an overnight stop with all you the bits you mention, maybe you have an overloaded caravan or you need to go down the route of changing your tow vehicle, to something on the lines of a transit to suit your lifestileUndecidedWink

Write your comments here...The Shogun with the largest size roof box on top seems big enough to accommodate everything.  It is a seven seater but as there's only the two of us, the other five seats go down making a massive amount of boot space. The awning plus poles, awning furniture etc. all fit into the car when we're travelling between sites. Aquaroll, wastemaster etc. all fit into the car. This keeps the caravan free from clutter. Otherwise we would be falling over everything, everytime we stepped into the caravan.

One thing about the other club is seeing walkers and cyclists with the minimum of equipment and then off on the next part of their journey. I like the variety of our clubs.Smile

Our bookings through this winter and into Spring and Summer are all with the Caravan Club. Our winter bookings alternate between Gatwick and Brighton and the Spring and summer bookings between Worthing and Littlehampton. Most of our bookings are 21 nights. We prefer long term stays so that we don't have to put up and take down the awning every few days.  It's also a lot less work of packing and unpacking, hitching up and unhitching etc. Our work commitments mean having to stay in or near the Worthing area, so we've booked our sites accordingly.

One or two night bookings usually mean that you don't have much time to do anything else other than towing between sites and carrying out all the necessary tasks of setting up your outfit followed by packing it once again ready for travel.

We still retain membership of both clubs as we may need to use the other club for tent camping whilst our caravan is being serviced.

Malc just out of interest what do you do with all your stuff while it is in for service. Ours has to be totally emptied and it is currently filling part of the garage and a bedroom.

We do not have the privacy problem with C&CC sites but do find them a bit less scenic somehow. Frankly we use whichever we find most conveniant or cheaper.

What annoys me about the C&CC though is the booking system as you cannot compare the price by just looking at the site details. You actualy have to get one step short of booking to get the fees which is unnecessarily time consuming.

...the other annoying thing about their booking system is that you have to book a minimum of 2 nights on a site.  That makes touring difficult sometimes.

Write your comments here...Then some people moan because they can't book a full week or fortnight because of a 1 night booking.

...Again, that is an issue that has been covered at length in previous posts ADP1963.  We are all members with equal rights but different needs.  We have a motorhome and enjoy touring from one site to another.  I don't see why we should be penalised for that because others want a fortnight in the same place.

Write your comments here...We can't empty ours. There'd be nowhere to store it.
