How does this Club compare with the ‘Other’?

I’ve started this discussion to try and collect together any direct comparisons between CC and C&CC.

One mentioned several times is that C&CC charge deposits with bookings, whereas CC does not. In that same discussion, it was mentioned that the C&CC membership was larger than CC’s, which surprised me. Can anyone provide the stats?

What other factual differences can be identified?

Looks like the C&Cc forum is poorly planned and implemented.  Its doomed before it starts.  My advice would be for them to invest in  proper commercially produced forum software and run it as a separate entity.

I thought GTP said it was an add on of a commercially based product most of which allow some tailoring to meet the owners use.

Peedee, it makes it even more important to delete ones date of birth from facebook. The combination of those two are dynamite.

I would like to be able to view threads without having to sign in as per CT. If usernames are to be the norm, then this should be possible, then if I want to make a comment on any particular thread I will have to sign in to the forum......Cool

Sounds like a "Burglars Almanac" to me, touring club, with members who might keep their outfit at home, personal details available to all and sundry, you couldn't make it up really. They can even burgle to order: nice area, perhaps teenage children, plenty of IT equipment and expensive media stuff around, member of such and such a club, so expensive sports gear going begging, maybe a nice car left on drive, maybe wife/ husbands nice car left on drive. Even photos available if using a third party hosting site! A savvy fifteen year old brought  TalkTalk to its knees, a complete numpty could use just a name to get all they need.

are CT members that use their 'real names' (rather than a pseudonym) more 'at risk' than those that dont?

if so, why?

this has been mentioned as a reason for not using the C&CC forum, yet a great many use 'real names' on CT.

Some expressing concern are using 'real names' on CT, so whats the specific difference?

if its an issue, should they stop using CT, or change their login 'name'?

If you use your real name do not show your location. Without your location finding you is very difficult but you should also keep your date of birth secret. If you are looking at burglars then you should have no problem. They would have to spend hours trying to find enough information on someone in their area and it almost certsinly would not justify the effort.

Leave enough information on you on the web though and identity theft is always a potential problem.

my point was that there are many CT members using real names and some, no doubt, who put their DOB In their profile...

why is no one screaming that these members should change this as they at exactly the same risk being voiced about the CCC forum?

surely, the risks are the same on both forums?

To a certain extent I agree BB, but it is a choice on this forum, doesn't sound like a choice on the other one, so not quite the same. Up to the individual to protect themselves, but from what I have read from other posts on here, it seems that you can't use an avatar name, so the C and CC seem to  be adding to the problem? I could be wrong, not a member, so haven't taken a look.

I don't think folk are attacking the CC&C itself just the system they have opted to go with. It helps no one playing the 'them & us' card. It's merely opinions, if the opinions help to protect members then it's all to the good.
