How does this Club compare with the ‘Other’?

I’ve started this discussion to try and collect together any direct comparisons between CC and C&CC.

One mentioned several times is that C&CC charge deposits with bookings, whereas CC does not. In that same discussion, it was mentioned that the C&CC membership was larger than CC’s, which surprised me. Can anyone provide the stats?

What other factual differences can be identified?

I think its too late for me - as I suspect I have already posted on the C&CC website - but I am not keen on my full name being revealed.  I wasn't with CT from the beginning but C &CC won't even log me into the main website since I posted on the forum - perhaps I posted something that wasn't PC - but I press the login button and get nowhere at all!

There is or was when I last looked, an option to delete your own posts. Not sure whats going on with the loin though. I asked the ccc last night to torpedo my forum accesss. Still nothing, apart from the forum link seems to have been removed from members benifits.

I did look at the CaravanChat forum - once.  It seemed to be populated by the same, same people riding the same, same hobby horses. Will Camping and Caravanning Club's new offering turn out to be the same as that other one?

I would advise the C&CC to be very careful in their choice of moderators. On other forums there have been instances of moderators having their own little clique of followers. Therefore the idea of impartiality in the way they do their moderation is missing. Fortunately there is generally only one out of the team who is like that, but they, by their actions tend lower the respect that the forum members have for the whole moderation team, which is a real shame as the others do a good job.

Here is an edited reply from the C &CC forum manager regarding my security and user name concerns.

sic. Once you have logged on to the forum you will automatically be registered as a user of it. It is members only and your data would be completly secure and in no way linked to bookings.

We are currently looking at adapting the forum so that real names would not be used.

In other words they don't have your prior permission to use your name and join, you are a member of the forum even if you just sign in to look. You have not signed up for T&Cs and by using your real name you will be vulnerable to anyone who chooses to track who you are.

The forum doesn't appear to be safely user ready yet and I don't have confidence that it is secure.

I hope it gets off the ground but I think it isn't quite properly prepared at the moment.

ET, that must have shocked you finding a forum called 'Caravan Chat' and the posters chatting about Caravan related things. I'm no expert but I reckon the 'Camping & Caravanning Club' may(and this is just a wild guess here) discuss Camping & Caravanning things. Great post ET, it gave me a giggleLaughingLaughing
