Dynamic pricing to be introduced

Apparently dynamic pricing is to be rolled out to all UK campsites during 2023.

Which means that those that book up to a year ahead will be able to take advantage of the lowest prices.

Those who for whatever reason cannot commit to booking so far in advance will be penalised if they wish to book closer to the time of travel because apparently the higher the popularity of a campsite and the closer to the time of arrival the booking is made, the higher the price may be.

As with all the changes that have happened during the last 6 months, where were any or more importantly ALL the members consulted and balloted regarding these changes?

Many older members (like ourselves) cannot commit to long term bookings due to medical considerations, appointments that may arise because of these etc; we have previously just set off when able on a ‘tour’ and then by way of the (what was) late availability checker booked ‘on the fly.’

We have already been penalised with the 21 day non-returnable deposit system which really could have been much fairer reduced to 7 days.

I used to fiercely defend the CAMC as a great organisation to be a member of but this latest move has been the nail in the coffin for us personally.

Dynamic! whats dynamic about updating a booking made last year to a cheaper grass pitch as it was 'automatically' put on a hardstanding pitch (when the system changed over) and being asked to pay an extra 5 pounds a night.

Also, the theory of dynamic pricing is to offer a discount for late bookings (rather than have empty pitches). I'd certainly encourage the club to embrace this !

Dynamic booking could also mean 'you've left it late to book so we put price up because you'll be desperate and pay whatever it costs to get a pitch.'  I'd hope it would mean,' we have only a couple up of pitches left for tomorrow so we would like to fill them by offering them at half price'

The club have already said last minute prices will increase rather than decrease. If the only available pitch is a fully serviced one it won't be cheap.

I’ve just been looking at York. £37+ per night to stay early March for us at YRP. Had a look on S4S and I can get £25 per night on a Site rated very highly with all facilities nearby. Or £22 per night adjacent to Cycleway into York on CCC listed site, that’s with a discount for three nights. (Don’t need to be a CCC member either) I shall be making a dynamically priced decision if we choose to go to York🤣

(Not interested in Beechwood Grange. It’s not dog friendly and too close to roar of A64 for us)

I think CAMC is planting the suggestion in your heads that prices will definitely increase near the date. The actual words used by a CAMC member of staff were "the closer to the time of arrival the booking is made, the higher the price may be". Note the use of the word "may".

At this stage CAMC cannot possibly know in which direction prices will go as it depends on take up of pitches. If there is high demand then, yes, prices will probably go up but if demand is low, you might see prices coming down. The whole concept of DP is the seller reacting to market forces and that can rarely be foreseen very far in advance so it is unlikely that an increase in prices nearer the date is a certainty. It's a possibility or even a probability but not a certainty.

since when, we used this site i think last year when we visited my sister, pretty sure it was dog friendly with a very good dog walking area, yes it was very expensive, it does have very new and very nice facilities. The only restrictions on dogs was that you cannot walk them out of the site, this restriction is in place due to the race horse stables which are next door and i guess is to protect the stables from any types of disese your dog may be carrying.

p.s. A64 was not a problem

I just had a look at Baltic Wharf now showing low availability for our booking in March, which was made in December when they extended the lease. If you booked today the price has increased 4.9% on our booking.

That's it. High demand = high prices.

Since we decided🤣 We give our pooch a decent walk at least twice a day, and a 100 metre field doesn’t cut the mustard with us, even though he’s 13 and shaky on his legs, he needs a proper walk. Fine for a late night pop out, but we need more with a Labrador. A well walked dog is a quiet dog, it’s how we always do things.

Living fairly local, I have endured many hold ups on the A64, particularly at that roundabout, so given the price as well, it’s not in consideration.

Tinny has hit the nail on the head around pricing, and of course the Club can’t really say if they might drop prices for last minute late take up. It won’t happen at all sites, some will still be popular. Meantime, we simply exercise our options, seeking value for money we are happy with😉

but site dog walks are there for that early morning walk, and last evening pee, who would want to sit on a club site all day long, not us, we go out for the day and take the dog laughing, not sure where you got the idea of 100 metre field, i seem to recall that it was a very nice wooded area, but i could be wrong, have you ever visited the site ???

p.s. sorry this is a bit of piste, but if we are discussing pricing i think it is important that sites are portrayed for what they offer and not for something that people think they offer..
