Dynamic pricing to be introduced

Apparently dynamic pricing is to be rolled out to all UK campsites during 2023.

Which means that those that book up to a year ahead will be able to take advantage of the lowest prices.

Those who for whatever reason cannot commit to booking so far in advance will be penalised if they wish to book closer to the time of travel because apparently the higher the popularity of a campsite and the closer to the time of arrival the booking is made, the higher the price may be.

As with all the changes that have happened during the last 6 months, where were any or more importantly ALL the members consulted and balloted regarding these changes?

Many older members (like ourselves) cannot commit to long term bookings due to medical considerations, appointments that may arise because of these etc; we have previously just set off when able on a ‘tour’ and then by way of the (what was) late availability checker booked ‘on the fly.’

We have already been penalised with the 21 day non-returnable deposit system which really could have been much fairer reduced to 7 days.

I used to fiercely defend the CAMC as a great organisation to be a member of but this latest move has been the nail in the coffin for us personally.

" Living fairly local, I have endured many hold ups on the A64, particularly at that roundabout, so given the price as well, it’s not in consideration."

but the site is a considerable distance from the roundabout, we stayed for 1 week and had no problems getting in and out of the site even with the caravan in tow, and noise was not a problem, again , if you have not visited the site then i think you are writing reviews that are not factual, yes it is expensive but it is well positioned for visits into the centre of York which i am sure many folk use it for.

"Since we decided🤣 We give our pooch a decent walk at least twice a day, and a 100 metre field doesn’t cut the mustard with us, even though he’s 13 and shaky on his legs, he needs a proper walk. Fine for a late night pop out, but we need more with a Labrador. A well walked dog is a quiet dog, it’s how we always do things."

but site dog walks are there for that early morning walk, and last evening pee, who would want to sit on a club site all day long, not us, we go out for the day and take the dog laughing, not sure where you got the idea of 100 metre field, i seem to recall that it was a very nice wooded area, but i could be wrong, have you ever visited the site ???

p.s. sorry this is a bit of piste, but if we are discussing pricing i think it is important that sites are portrayed for what they offer and not for something that people think they offer..

Well, I’ve visited the site and taking one's dog off site involves use of a car or MH which is restrictive. I thought you’d realise that if you’ve stayed there, Rufs.

I had no issue with the site itself or its dog walk but did find it awkward always having to use transport to get off site. I don’t think it's a restriction put in place by CAMC but by the adjacent stable owner.

I’m glad it suited you Rufs, but it’s not for us, for a variety of reasons. I wasn’t reviewing it, merely gave a couple of reasons why in 30 plus years, (and York being the home of my father,) it has never interested us as we can get more of what we want, better value for money elsewhere. I am sure many will find it a nice Site, we don’t. Best move on as we are off topic.

yes i did and i said this and you are correct

"The only restrictions on dogs was that you cannot walk them out of the site, this restriction is in place due to the race horse stables which are next door and i guess is to protect the stables from any types of disese your dog may be carrying."

this does not make the site "not dog friendly", if you have a MH then it can be inconvienient i guess, but does it not warn you of this in the site handbook, have no idea personally as i am not a MH owner, clearly somebody is doing a site review without visiting the site, not a great fan of CAMC sites but if i had been wishing to visit my sister and read about the site on CT i would have gotten totally the wrong impression and would probably not have booked the site

Review? I think you perhaps should return to the subject of the thread.

Or £22 per night adjacent to Cycleway into York on CCC listed site, that’s with a discount for three nights

We know the site well, having used it a few times in the past, so can recommend it. Free WiFi too!!😉
