Dynamic pricing to be introduced

Apparently dynamic pricing is to be rolled out to all UK campsites during 2023.

Which means that those that book up to a year ahead will be able to take advantage of the lowest prices.

Those who for whatever reason cannot commit to booking so far in advance will be penalised if they wish to book closer to the time of travel because apparently the higher the popularity of a campsite and the closer to the time of arrival the booking is made, the higher the price may be.

As with all the changes that have happened during the last 6 months, where were any or more importantly ALL the members consulted and balloted regarding these changes?

Many older members (like ourselves) cannot commit to long term bookings due to medical considerations, appointments that may arise because of these etc; we have previously just set off when able on a ‘tour’ and then by way of the (what was) late availability checker booked ‘on the fly.’

We have already been penalised with the 21 day non-returnable deposit system which really could have been much fairer reduced to 7 days.

I used to fiercely defend the CAMC as a great organisation to be a member of but this latest move has been the nail in the coffin for us personally.

Or £22 per night adjacent to Cycleway into York on CCC listed site, that’s with a discount for three nights

We know the site well, having used it a few times in the past, so can recommend it. Free WiFi too!!😉

Sorry off topic!embarassed

Not off topic at all. It's all about pricing. Dynamic or otherwise it reveals that CAMC prices are premium for an average product.

I am wondering how dynamic pricing will be shown to be in operation.

If I have missed it and the info re date of introduction is out there somewhere I would love to know where that date info is.

If not and anyone comes across this way of CAMC ‘selling’ pitches hopefully they will let other members know by posting here on the forum and maybe elsewhere as they see fit.

I personally wonder if they may be ‘sold’ through late availability.

I also couldn't find anything about dynamic pricing , so I contacted CMC and you can read the reply on page 8 of this thread. I am not happy about not being contacted about this along with other members.  The increase is already happening, look on a booking site and when the pitches are LOW that is where you will find the increase, I know it's not much , but for someone who uses the CMC a lot it soon mounts up along with all the other increases. I will not be renewing my membership , there are plenty of other sites out there and I shall look forward to visiting them.

Whilst I agree it should have been made clearer, I’m not sure what folk thought would happen when they started charging deposits. Dynamic pricing as with the other club was inevitable.  Clearly the aim is to get members booking early to secure the lowest price and of course bank those deposits. For that reason, at least initially, I believe they will be reluctant to offer last minute reductions. Although they may go for earlier offers on specific pitch types, if say grass wasn’t selling. The other club seem to adopt this approach.

I fully understood why the Club had decided to bring in a deposit scheme, and was under no illusions as to the need to change booking terms and conditions as part of this. What I cannot recall being mentioned prior to the new booking scheme being implemented is that there would be a move over to dynamic/reflective pricing, and therefore difficulty in producing any kind of price guide, other than via the actual booking system. Something might be out there though……🤔

"

With the new improved booking system, pitch fees will be slightly lower for early bookings and slightly higher for bookings placed closer to the date of arrival.

I hope this helps.

I don't see that it was 'inevitable' you can have a deposit system without DP, the other club did for a very long time, it's only in the last few years gone over to DP.

It will put some members off but the diehards will still be willing to cough up a year in advance to get the weeks and site they want.

No difference to booking a holiday anywhere else. We book our flights for Lanzarote each year when we get back from our visit there, full payment not a deposit. Early booking gives the best price, we know when we are going, we know we will go, so why not get the best price and seats on the plane.

Would I do it for a campsite in the UK, absolutely not.

Joanie & others’ thanks for the info.  I guess I should have read more pages of this thread before I posted.  At least I now understand that low availability means slightly higher pitch price.
