Time to roll back to previous forum?

it  looks like CC is performing its 'user acceptance' testing of the new forum in the live environment, ie we are testing it (and pointing out the myriad faults) in full public gaze...

this is (or should be) very embarrassing for those concerned, as all this 'testing' (and that is whats being done) should have been completed in a parallel testing environment, and have had a group of 'real' users giving it a damn good stress test for a good while....

im afraid what we have in full view is not fit for purpose and i suggest the CC eats Humble Pie and reverts to the previous forum so that all this work on the new forum can be completed where it should always have been....in private....

attempting to fire fight is always difficult, especially where so many users are bombarding the IT team with so many faults.....repairing these in real time will be difficult and will put the team under more time pressure, time that can be measured by everyone on the forum.

do this in the test environment and roll it out again when its functionality is properly understood and there is a decent team of experienced users helping to test it and sign it off properly....

whichever decision the club makes, i wish them luck, but they have put themselves between a rock and a hard place.....

however, sometimes, we have to admit we got it wrong, big up and get it sorted.....in private.

It is every forum member's duty to feedback to those who are running a forum when faults and glitches occur.

Im surprised you disagree with members helping the forum management in their endeavours.

Cheers..........K laughingwink

Very true, Kennine. I always thought that feedback would be welcome, when the IT staff are struggling to find their way with all this new-fangled web site stuff.

As you say, it's strange that the moderators discourage such feed-back.

Cheers,

Ian

No one is discouraging real feedback as it is most useful particularly if done in a constructive manner. What we are trying to discourage is the constant sniping and snide comments directed at the IT Team, and the the Club in general as that is not feedback.

The best way to discourage such behaviour is to keep the membership accurately informed instead of telling us to shut up and be patient. My feeling is that we are being ignored in a rather patronising way.

Perhaps a post on a special thread here in this forum where we can list the problems that effect us and a reply from IT against each to inform us when a fix has been applied. That would be an excellent start.

The sniping is indeed feedback David - no matter how unwelcome it gives a clear message. The message is that members have no idea what 'fixes' or amendments are in progress. Obviously there will have been few over the Christmas period.

An announcement with points raised by members and/or CC and the intended action, if any, would be welcome. About that I have no doubt.

Just a simple , long wink, well laid out post from CC

I've had a response from the Director of Marketing to my Email to the CEO. Whilst it does cover some of the points I have raised, the overall tenor is that the website is "a work in progress" and referring to the difficulties of a project of this magnitude. A sample from the reply follow.

"We tested the colours for suitability for colour blind individuals and the current colour differentiation did not highlight specific problems. We tested the colours for suitability for colour blind individuals and the current colour differentiation did not highlight specific problems."

"The overseas booking process was tested and passed all tests. Once again, information on where specifically the process appears to be failing will help us identify any potential problemsThe overseas booking process was tested and passed all tests. I'm not entirely convinced that the powers that be comprehend the concerns with the overall usability and design. Clearly a "snagging list" will provide them with the areas that need attention but I fear that it may be some considerable time for the site becomes halfway user-friendly.

I shall start a new thread solely for the purpose of posting "snags"

Some people still can't easily read the coloured text...I think they know that they don't matter as they are such a small minority so it's OK really!surprised
