Peaceful campsite, even in high season.

We chose this campsite primarily for it's location. On arrival, we received the warmest and friendliest welcome possible from the owner, in perfect English. We were presented with a folder of information on the local attractions and a bottle of wine as we were staying for 7 nights; we were even lent a parking disc until we purchased our own the next day. It is often the little extras which don't cost much but which make all the difference! The site was always quiet and the super pitches were of a generous size. The takeaway pizza and chips were excellent (one portion of chips is more than enough for 2 people to share). Bread could be ordered the evening before and ice creams were available. The free wi-fi advertised for the patio area was available in our caravan! The site would probably be too quiet for families with older children but is ideal for couples and families with young children. All the staff were approachable and helpful. From here we visited the Royal Palace, the open-air museum at Arnhem, Fortress Bourtange and Giethoorn. This area of the Netherlands is much quieter than the area around Delft and parking was generally free of charge. We highly recommend a stay here and hope to return. Thank you Martin for making us feel so welcome.

July 2016

A warm and friendly welcome by the young lady on reception was an excellent start to a wonderful stay. She presented us with an information folder on the site and local area, this was very interesting. Our pitch was alongside the river Vetch with facilities within easy reach. It was a very well maintained site, everywhere was spic & span, thank you. We mostly cycled everywhere, Ommen & Dalsen are easily accessed by bike and the cycleways are excellent. We had lunch by the river Vetch in Dalsen at Hendriks Kitchen which was excellent. Michael booked us out with a complimentary cup of coffe. We hope to return. Sheila & Gordon Price

Great site

We spent 3 nights here en-route to Denmark, it was not enough and we will be back. Very helpful owners/staff, on arrival you are lent a folder with suggested places to visit and local information, good location for local towns and cycling with some pitches along the river bank. Very quiet and peacful when we were there - out of peak season. Be aware they do not accept all credit cards and even when booked through the club a deposit is needed for the barrier/shower card.

A real rural gem of a site

Other 5 star reviews summarise well the facilities and area. The location is stunning, alongside the river Vechte with abundant cycleways linking the site with Ommen (around 3 miles) and Dalfsen in the other direction (about 7 miles). The city of Zwolle is also accessible via bicycle beyond Dalfsen - a bit of a longer journey but well worth it. Getting there - a breeze of a journey from the Hook of Holland, round 2 and a half hours. Be aware that there is a youth camp place on the road leading to the site - we thought this was the site and stopped there by mistake. The biking is all off road, flat and much safer than the sites nearer Amsterdam. Totally family friendly with no mad moped riders zooming past you on the bike roads. The showers (and hot water) use a card access system. You buy your 10 euros worth of credit on a card which must be placed in a slot on the shower unit itself which in turn enables the hot water. Don't do what I did and just swipe the card - the hot water will not come on!! Site wifi coverage is good. We were down by the river and got online no trouble with our iphones and ipad. And even better it was free! Michael the owner is very knowledgeable about local places of interest and gave us some excellent recommendations. He speaks very good English (I thought he was a Brit at first!) and is a friendly and approachable guy. The wide open spaces are simply brilliant - the site pitches are well spaced around the field perimeters, rather than cramming people into any available space We cannot recommend this site highly enough. Not just our favourite overseas site so far, but amongst the best we have ever visited in our 9 years of caravanning

Well worth a visit

Good site in a nice location with friendly and helpful staff. Easy to cycle into Ommen for shopping, also for the train to Zwolle. Enjoyed my week here - on my list for a return visit.

Great Site for cyclists and fishermen

Just returned from a fortnight on this Dutch site. About two hours from the Hook of Holland Ferry. Michael, the owner speaks perfect English and is only too happy to recommend places for days out, he encourages his guests to explore the local area by bicycle and the well signposted, quiet cycle paths are a joy to use. While I am not a fisherman, I did enjoy walking alongside the river bank where it seems all the fishermen were enjoying bumper catches. The nearest town Ommen, a short cycle ride away is perfect for shopping as it is serviced by four supermarkets and has a weekly market. Cafes and restaurants are good with a wide variety of tastes catered for. Amsterdam is around an hour away by car or train, parking at railway stations is free! Zwolle is worth a visit with market day on a Friday, try to park a little out of town and if you have a cycle rack take your bicycles, or if really adventurous cycle from the site, it’s not too far and there are plenty of coffee and cake stops on the way! I am sure that this will not be our last caravan trip to this area of Holland as there is so much to see and do in and I look forward to arriving back to this site to enjoy my next piece of Apple tart with cream and coffee.

So so nice

What a find. The owner and his staff and family could not be more welcoming and helpful. Lovely and peaceful for grumpy oldies like us but plenty of safe space for those with little ones. The local towns are interesting and provide all that you could need. There are also some very interesting and unique places to visit close by. To cap it all you can cycle and walk to your hearts content on pathed level ground. Watch your Ps and Qs the locals understand and speak perfect English - deep joy. We visited in a rather damp May this year but will be back.

Great Site in a beautiful area

We have just returned from a very pleasant week at resort-de-arendshorst.nl and hope to return. The staff are very friendly and helpful and speak perfect English. The site is well kept and the facilities clean as is all of Holland. The site has a Bar/Restaurant which serves good food they also do take away meals. There is a beautiful area of Holland. The town of Ommen 5 km away is beautiful, always busy. We saw band's in the street and a horse drawn carriage parade. We visited Paleis Het Loo about an hour's drive away it's a journey through three centuries of Orange history. We also went to Giethoorn where we hired a boat to tour the village. There are no roads in the village so it's either walk or as we did, hired a boat to tour the village. There's so much to see and do in this area so were planning another visit next year. Thank's to Michael and his staff for a very enjoyable holiday.

Staying @ Arendshorst site May/June 2015

This was our first visit to Holland with our caravan, and we found the site easily, and a lovely pitch close to the river. Very peaceful site, with numerous walks & cycle rides across the adjacent heathland. Also close to lovely old town of Ommen, and motorways to take you to other parts of Holland too. Very helpful owner and staff and good facilities, don't miss the apple pie & cream with a coffee after a walk or cycle ride maybe! Would thoroughly recommend this site, we hope to visit again soon.

Great place

This was our very first trip abroad with e caravan and this was a lovely quiet site.  Situated a nice easy 20 min bike ride from Ommen it was perfect for us, Ommen is a lovely place just along the river. The owner was really welcoming and helpful with advice and info about the area and things to do.  Big thank you to him.
