Arendshorst
We spent four nights here at the end of July and wish it had been longer. This is a lovely site in a beautiful location, 3km from the small picturesque town of Ommen. You can hire a bike for just 9 euros and spend a day cycling on well maintained cycle lanes, well away from the main roads so very safe for children and nervous cyclists. The campsite pitches are spacious and the facilities spotlessly clean - always very important. There is a small petting farm and playground for children and a paddling pool. We ate at the on-site restaurant several times and each meal was delicious. Michael the owner is very knowledgeable and helpful. We're already planning to return for a longer stay next year. Looking forward to the apple cake and cream 😀
....better than all the rest.
This was our last campsite after an eight-week caravan tour of Scandinavia (mainly in Norway, having driven up through Denmark and returning briefly via Sweden). We stayed in around 16 sites for varying lengths of time, and so arrived at Arendshorst for our three final nights aimed at relaxing before returning back from Rotterdam to Hull.
Whilst we thoroughly enjoyed all of our tour, our stay at this particular site proved to be the best we had in our entire trip. This was mainly down to the gentle and chilled atmosphere on site, with plenty of room for our large outfit, together with electricity, grey waste and water on each pitch (unlike many Scandinavian sites where electricity cables often criss crossed over the entire site, being driven over frequently, as well as water filling points randomly placed). Wifi was fast and free and available across the whole site, different again to some German sites where it was found in only the Reception).
Michael the owner was almost certainly the most sociable and organised site owner/reception person we came across throughout the whole trip, providing a perfectly produced information folder for each touring group. Additionally, it always seemed that he was happy to help, and that it was a pleasure to be of service (an excellent trait other site owners would do well to emulate!)
We plan to return to the site next year, for a longer stay at the end of a tour of Germany. We want to see more of this area and the Netherlands, as we felt it deserved more time to explore.

Peaceful and friendly site
Peaceful and friendly family run site. Owners are very helpful and the cycling is excellent. Lots of flat, safe and well marked cycleways through woods and beside canals and rivers leading to pretty towns and gardens. On-site restaurant has a good and reasonably priced menu and the pitches are well spaced. The only reason we haven't given 5 stars is that the toilet facilities were very limited with them also being a walk across 2 fields.

Great Find!
We stayed here for 2 nights en route from Germany after finding it in the overseas brochure.
Michael the owner was very helpful and his English is excellent.
On arrival we were given a folder with information about the site, local site seeing, opening days and time for supermarkets and market days.
The facilities were clean and the showers were hot and easy to use with a pre loaded payment card.
Our pitch was in a large open field with plenty of room to set up.
this site is ideal for fishing.
We plan to go back next year and hopefully do some fishing.
A great find!
Great Site.Ideal for visiting North Holland
We have just returned from our visit to Holland.
This was the second time we have stayed at Arendshorst. The site and facilities are clean and well maintained as is all of Holland.
The site is run by the owner Michael who makes everyone feel at home. It was Kings Day whilst we were there so a lot was going on. We visited the nearby town of Elburg which was holding it's annual Tug Boat Show. The town was very busy with the harbour full of Vintage Tugs. It was also market day but there was no problem parking as a field on the outskirts of the town was opened for free parking well worth a visit. We also visited Fortress Bourange which is about an hours drive away. This was well worth a visit, it was also very busy but again no problem parking in a large free car park. The town of Ommen is about a 10 minute drive away. It has 2 supermarkets and lots of good bars and restaurants. Whilst we were there we saw a Carnival with marching bands, a parade of 80 + Vintage Tractors and Horse Drawn Carriages.
Everyone was dressed in Dutch period costumes.
Arendshorst is an ideal site to base yourself for visiting North Holland.

One week touring by caravan to see local sights and to embrace the Dutch countryside.
Its very unfortunate that my partner and I choose and very cold and dull week, in early season. However, Michael the owner made us most welcome gave us a folder full of places to visit within an hours drive. He was able to offer a choice of pitches, we choose a pitch just clear of the surrounding woodland and fifty meters from the river, that which seemed to attract fishermen. Its an ideal site for walking, dogs and cyclists, with all routes written in the guide. The restaurant, bar and shop weren't open, but a short drive into one of the nearby towns you were able to buy all your needs. Its a shame that they don't allow charcoal Bar be Que's, even away from the trees, but I understand that you can hire gas stoves at 10 euro's. I would have probably given it a five star rating had we experienced all the facilities. The drive from the ferry at Rotterdam is about 3 hours on excellent roads. Be alert when approaching the site as signage is very small and the turn in very narrow.
Peace and quiet
The owners of this site could not have been more friendly and helpful. On arrival they give you a folder containing information on the site, the local area and ideas on where to visit. The site is well maintained and very clean. Cycling is easy as the area is flat and has an extensive excellent cycle route network. Full marks.
Driving out the Pagans
This was our second visit to this lovely campsite and it just grows on us. Firstly the journey time from the Hook of Holland is about 3 hours (traffic dependant) so doable before reception closing time if on a daytime ferry. Michael and family are very welcoming and invited all the campers to their large traditional bonfire and provided delicious mulled wine. Pitches are large and fully serviced. Although no hard-standings there are no problems with siting vans/motor homes. This is a lovely part of the Netherlands with lots to do and see. For children there is a paddling pool and a animal petting corner.
Cycling and walking are well catered for. Ommen is a lovely little town with plenty of shops, restaurants, petrol stations etc.
Will certainly return
Super Site
I agree with all that's been written about Camping Resort de Arendshorst. Well laid out, friendly, good clean facilities in a great location and we would certainly return. The one thing I think I should mention is even if you booked and paid for your visit through the club you will be expected to stump up a considerable sum for entry/shower deposit 50 euros, 10 euros on the card for hot water and tourist tax, which in our case was another 10 euros! If you have a four legged friend that's another 2euros/night. You do get the 50euros back plus any credit on the card for unused hot water. The normal deposit is either 10 or 20euros so I think 50 is way too much, particularly at the end of your holiday!
Plenty of wildlife around the site and local area from Storks, woodpeckers, geese to red squirrels
