We can endorse all the positive features mentioned in previous reviews. The site was winding down for the winter while we were there, but was still quite busy. We spent an interesting 2 weeks, mostly cycling from the site but with day trips to Utrecht and elsewhere. On arrival, Michael suggested we upgrade to one of the riverside plots, which was an excellent choice as the river was a constant source of interest with geese, herons, and ducks, with the only downside being a longer walk to the facilities.
Highly recommended.
Great campsite, lovely people - worth a visit
Just back from two fab weeks in the Netherlands, the second week was spent at the wonderful Camping Resort de Arendshorst.
We have stayed here before and knew that the site would provide a perfect place to relax and unwind but as we had our grandson Ethan with us, we also knew that it is a great site for family adventures. The site is right on the river, so we got to swim each day and use our dinghy - the river is deep but the current is not strong. There is a shallow beach area for smaller children and also a 0.3 mtr deep splash pool away from the river for toddlers.
There is a petting zoo on site with goats and chickens, Ethan thought the goats were hilarious and visited them at every opportunity.
There is also a decent sized kids play park and even outdoor table tennis tables on the main fields. Pitches are arranged around the edges of two very large fields and along the river bank, we asked for a riverside pitch, as we like to watch the boats going by and people fishing. In the evening, the scene is picture perfect, as the sun sets and the geese come to land on the water.
Arendshorst is perfect for cycling, with excellent routes right outside the site - ask Michael (the owner) for a cycling map of the area. We cycled to Ommen for the market and a smoked eel festival (didn't eat the eels but had some delicious friets), which was a great day out. We also cycled to Vilsteren - the scenery on route is wonderful.
Other notable days out were to Elburg, a lovely old town with a vibrant marina and some good places to eat. We also visited Giethoorn, the Venice of the Netherlands. It is a lovely place but we weren't quite prepared for the sheer number of tourists who were visiting and their lemming like antics as they charged along.
Staff at Arendshorst speak very good English and as well as providing a folder full of places to visit when we booked in, they were also happy to advise about events happening in local towns.
Site facilities at Arendshorst are excellent and kept immaculately clean, you do have to pay a small amount for showers but as the site fees are very reasonable it seems fair. Each pitch has water, waste and electrics, which meant very little fetching and carrying of water for dad!
There is a small site shop selling the basics like milk eggs etc (and icecreams), you can also order delicious bread rolls which are cooked on site each morning.
On our last day as we were packing up and couldn't be bothered to cook, Michael kindly provided us with frikandellen in buns and huge pieces of Dutch apple cake, delicious, and it kept us going for the journey to the ferry.
So apart from the above, why should you visit Camping Resort de Arendshorst? Because it's a traditional campsite run by a lovely family who care about what they do and go to great lengths to make your stay enjoyable - we will definitely be back.
Excellent spacious site
We stayed on this site for a few days in June on our way to tour north Germany in our motor-home. It was not very busy at the time, but it is a very spacious site, and I don't think that it would ever feel crowded. The pitches are well maintained and level, with fresh water points and electric hook-up. The site is in a very peaceful area, and has a relaxed feel about it. There is plenty of easy cycling on the doorstep. The nearby town of Ommen is charming, as also are Dalfsen and Dedemsvaart. It is probably feasible to cycle to Zwolle (which has plenty of interesting history) as well, but we did not have the time. There is quality coarse fishing on the river Vechte which is directly accessible, and I was told by one of the anglers that the site office sell the necessary permit (Vispas) . . . . . I wish now that I had taken my rods :-(
We would recommend this site without hesitation.
PS - We did not have to consult the site staff very much, but on the few occasions that we did, they were always helpful and courteous.
Early season bliss
We stayed on this site for 7 nights in April. Our experience could not have been bettered. The
restaurant and shop don't open until the Whit weekend but this was no matter to us. We are keen cyclists and had great fun exploring the area and going shopping on our bikes to Ommen. Our arrival got off to a perfect start because the owner, Michael, speaks perfect English and gave us great advice about everything. Our pitch was beside the river with an unobstructed view of the sunsets and the early morning mist on the water. The few anglers on the bank added to the air of tranquil calm. There were woodpeckers drumming across the water. In daytime, small boats passed up and down peacefully. The dog walkers had plenty of ground to explore. The location and ambience of this family run business was perfect for us..
Don't be put off by having to pay for hot water in the shower. The pre-pay system works perfectly. Michael's motivation is ecological and not greed for profit. It is salutary to realise how little is energy is needed to have a satisfactory shower. The two of us had 14 showers for 5 euros.
We found it easy to choose this site because of other favourable reviews and were not disappointed.
I wish all sites were like this.
We arrived shortly after the take away closed, yet the owners happily opened up and took our order. Then whilst we were busy setting up our caravan they delivered our food with a smile. Each pitch was generous with plenty of space for an awning and parking. The owners were always helpful and ready to give tourist advice.
The site is situated in a rural setting which is absolutely ideal for cycling and walking.
We will definitely be returning.

A good location to visit
Our stay proved to be a wet and windy one weather wise, but the site ground coped very well for the amount of rain it had, we can only agree with previous reviews and found much to explore in the area and enjoyed our visit. Our thanks to the staff and we hope to see you again

Beautiful Location
We stayed here (2 adults +2 children aged 7 & 8) for 4 nights at the beginning of August 2017. The site is very spacious with all the pitches around the edge of the large field leaving lots of room for the children to play in the middle.
All the pitches are serviced with electric, water and drainage. You have to pay for hot water in the showers and pot washing areas via a prepaid card - £30 refundable deposit was required for this (any unused credit and the deposit is re-funded on departure)
The riverside location is stunning and the local area offers lots of beautiful scenic easy cycling. We cycled to Dalfsen on Market day, the beautiful village of Vilsteren and Ommen where they had a great festival on for the children with loads of free activities. Also travelled a bit further afield to Emmen to go to Wildlands Adventure Zoo, (well worth a visit for a full day out with the kids).
The site owners were very friendly and helpful, making my children feel very welcome. I can recommend this site and the area for a very peaceful few days holiday with plenty of things to do and see if you want to.
A most splendid site and vacation at Resort de Arendshorst
We spent two weeks at this caravan site and must rate as one of the best we have stayed at whether in the UK or in Europe. The facilities at this site were excellent, starting by the side of the caravan on a fully serviced pitch. The toilet facilities were clean and always available. I was delighted to use a freely available wi-fi with a strong signal. Indeed, there were many aspects of this site that should be available at home, UK sites have much to learn from the service provision offered by Resort de Arendshorst. There was a small shop with a restaurant and bar alongside, most welcome after a busy days holidaying!
Staff were most helpful and very patient when I called upon their help. They never hesitated.
There was an expanse of space in which to take a walk around the site, my favourite – to stroll along the riverside. It was a beautiful site. Cycling to Ommen and elsewhere was a pleasure. Within easy reach of Amsterdam and other tourist hot spots, it was a most enjoyable vacation.
I recommend this site to everyone without hesitation.
excellent site
This was one of the best sites we could have chosen, we booked for 5 nights and extended for another two after leaving wished we had stayed even longer.
We have a motor home and do all our site seeing by bike or local transport there was plenty for us to do within easy reach.
Could not believe how helpful the site staff were, from booking in handed a folder all in English.
A big site with plenty of room but quiet and tranquil, facilities beautifully clean and thoroughly spoilt with electric point, own tap and waste drain 2 foot from unit .
Basically FANTASTIC !!! we will be booking again.
