city location

This site is in the heart of the city. A little bit noisey, poor TV reception, no grass anywhere. You need a key to go the loo, putting up an awning is a nightmare and the geese will keep you up all night. We are however desperatly trying to book another weekend. Fantastic location and lovely, helpful wardens.

Has to be the best site in the network...

I have managed to book caravan weekends away, odd nights and last minute cancellations here. In fact I have several trips coming up - and these have all been due to other people cancelling - so if you are prepared to watch the booking system, there ARE spaces to be had. Took our brand new motorhome here last week - I drove and husband met me there. Had never driven a M/H so was nervous about the whole experience. I shouldn't have been. The pitches are so well maintained and spacious that it was breeze - even getting it on the blocks. 5 mins to "Bishy Rd" and all its trendy shops and eateries and ten-12 mins to Clifford Tower and then on to the centre. The site is lovely and very quiet apart from the Minster bells - how lovely are they...and the wardens are the nicest, friendliest wardens I've seen - especially when you consider how busy they are! Booking in was a breeze, the toilets are unbelievably spotless and modern and the whole site offers an experience without parallel in my opinion. An absolute jewel in the CC's crown.

Rowntree York

We managed to have a late availability for two nights in Early October after touring the north of England for two weeks. Just have to say what a brilliant site it was. The staff were really friendly and helpful. The site itself was absolutely spotless and so well cared for. It was an expectedly really busy site but the staff were all calm and happy. Well done Rowntree.

Book early to avoid disappointment

I can now understand why I could never get booked onto this site. It is ideally located for walking into York city centre, and we'll be back. It is on one hand the busiest site I've seen and the quietest. It's both full and everyone is out for the day/evening. I'd been warned that the reception was 'on stilts' but it's strange to finally see it. I do not envy the job of the wardens, I consciously slowed right down from about 40 miles away to try and make sure I didn't get there before 1200 but was still 15 minutes early - and 4th in the queue to get in. The humour, tact and enthusiasm of the wardens was wonderful to behold. Some noise from local roads, but I can't really comment on family as this didn't apply.

Excellent site

Spent a week on site at the beginning of September. Excellent system of booking in at busy times when Warden meets you and lets you through to find pitch before actually booking in which resolves problem of a queue of vehicles spilling out into highway. All staff extremely pleasant and helpful. Facilities spotless. It was good to see Wardens politely reminding visitors of speed limit and also holding early arrivals. Excellent play facilities for children in Park next to site. Although previous review complains about WIFI, I had no problems although admittedly I was not trying to download films etc more than adequate for e-mails and general use.

Where did you stay?

We feel that we must reply to the previous review. We have stayed at Rowntree Park many times over the years and feel that we must take issue with the points raised. There are 25 acres of parkland with a huge children's play area the other side of the hedge, not 2 minutes walk away. If you wanted to, you could walk 10 miles in either direction along the river path, enough excerise to tire any dog. The pitches are relatively close together but this is effectively a city centre site, you are 5 mins walk from the centre of York with all its attractions. We  think this is a fantastic site and will be looking forward very much to our next visit.

Present visit

This site is next to the centre of York. It's cramped and always busy with no facilities for dog owners or families with children. No ares for either to play or exercise in. The pitches are all gravel and each one is serounded by neatly you cut hedges. However Do NOT expect to get on site before 12midday. The warden keeps the Gates firmly locked to all arrivals until 12midday on the dote. You can expect him to approach you at your car with his clipboard on arrival and he will allocate you your pitch especially if you have a large twin wheelbase caravan which the site is not really that good for.

Great site

We have just returned from 2 nights at Rowntree site, this is a brilliant site to visit York, it is about a 10 - 15 minute walk into York centre. No wonder this site is always so booked up. The wardens where very nice and helpful. Will be going back again hopefully soon.

Poor wifi

I have stayed at Rowantree park previously and was very disappointed on my most recent visit to find that the wifi was virtually unusable. I contacted the club and and received a standard reply including a hyperlink to the club website where I was informed that the site was classed as bronze level for wifi, i.e it was not suitable for uploading photos or for programmes like facebook. In previous years I have had no issue with the wifi but on this visit found it so slow that I could not log into the club website to make or amend my bookings. This poor standard of wifi and and miserable reply to my enquiry is not acceptable to me. Others I spoke to had the same complaint. Rowantree park is in a large city and I would expect a far better wifi service for the money I have paid (£25 for the year). Instead I had to rely on my phone and ipad to gain web access and virtually used my entire monthly allowance on both to do so. Speeding is a common issue on club sites and the wardens appear to nothing about it. I understand a child was killed on this site in an incident with a motor vehicle some years ago yet nothing appears to be done to discourage speeding drivers and very young children on bikes blatantly flaunting the 5mph rule . Children are the responsibility of parents and it is down to parents to ensure that their children are not put at risk by speeding around the site, often in the opposite direction to the traffic flow but wardens need to enforce the speed limit for vehicles. 4mph is deemed as a brisk walking pace yet I frequently witnessed cars and motorhomes engage 2nd and even 3rd gear in what is a 5mph limit.
