Excellent City Break

This was our first visit but hopefully not our last. The site is really well maintained with very friendly staff on hand to help. The site couldn't be better located for visiting York as it's only a few minutes walk from the centre. Absolutely great!

Great location

We're a return visitor to this site but first visit without the derelict building in the middle and what a difference. Always a busy site, so the view is usually caravans and motorhomes. We used to prefer the Riverside section and ended up on the new part where the old building was sited. Easy to see it's very new but showing potential with the new planting and a very nice situation for sun. Booked last minute as had some free time and were lucky with a Taste of Yorkshire Food and Drink market that weekend. Also a celebration in the streets out the back of the site - ever a sucker for some bunting on a sunny day. Revisited some old haunts and explored some new - lovely site, friendly wardens, relaxing time just sat outside the caravan watching the world go by with a glass of wine - here's to the next time.

Good Site But

Having tried for 2 years to get into this site and being at the other end of England, planning a good 6 months in advance is not easy. It is a shame the a deposit is not required to book this site and after speaking to repeat visitors phoning is quicker and easier, which is not right for this First class Site as there is not many in or close to city centres. As when we were there it was marked full but at least 4 slots were empty but showed full on the web site. So returning will not be easy to this Site.

Great position for the city of York

We visit the site every year as York is one of our favourite cities and this site is on the doorstep. Their are great walks for the dogs along the river and further. Out of the back gate is a little community of its own with dog friendly pubs. The city itself is beautiful, well worth a visit. My only issue was that the wardens allowed emergency plots to be used, not advertised, that can infringe upon what you think is your privacy, some of the roads which have a gate at the end can be used for other vehicles so if that bothers you don't pick a plot next to one.

booking in system

Arrived on the 24th of may at 12.15 to no queues, The present wardens have a new system for booking in .The warden greets you with his clip board and takes your details and membership card then lets you go and pick a pitch then you return to office with pitch number and book in. Been coming to this site on and off for 25 years and always had to queue.Makes your stay less stressful not sitting in the queue for up to 30 minutes. The wardens both assistant and warden were all very pleasant and helpful

Excellent break on excellent site

We visited this site from 22nd to 27th May 2016 and found it to be a quiet site with welcoming wardens who were very helpful. This site is withing easy walking distance of the City which my partner and I did with ease on most days. It was a lovely walk along the river and an easy walk back following an evening meal. The booking in system is a more pleasant experience than on all the other sites we have visited as the warden met us at the barrier and began the booking in system from there, thereby avoiding queues in the office. It was surprising how quiet the site was bearing in mind the close proximity to the city, this is helped by the fact that their is no play area and the children use the one in the park next door. The only negative is the difficulty in booking onto this site although the warden did advise us to telephone the site if we do have difficulty. Overall a most pleasant visit to a lovely site in a lovely city.

perfect location but less than perfect welcome

This site is in a perfect location. Just an easy walk into York. It is also by the river which of course can cause problems from flooding, but otherwise makes for a lovely sight just outside the entrance. The site is also perfectly placed for numerous traffic-free runs (or walks). I enjoyed turning right out of the site and following the river bank to Bishopthorpe (there is an alternative route I also used through the racecourse). From Bishopthorpe there are numerous options including the trans-Pennine route towards Selby. Needless to say the area is also full of easy (flat) cycling routes. Unlike some others we could choose our own pitch with a good choice at the time we arrived (approx 12.45). But I could not describe the assistant warden who booked us in as friendly or welcoming. Nothing to complain about - I was "processed" perfectly efficiently - but hardly the best welcome. I think a minority of wardens don't realise they are working in the hospitality industry and the effect a friendly welcome has on the visitor experience. I later met the main warden who could not have been more friendly and helpful and is a great credit to the club.

WHAT A SHAME

We love this site, we love York and have been staying here for years, but would recommend that if you are here over a weekend, then don't pitch on the side of the site that is next to the Rowntree Park play area unless you are bringing kids!  We arrived on Sunday at around 12.15 and the noise through the hedge was unbearable, with banshee screaming and shouting from children on what is now a huge playground with climbing equipment and nature trails which are literally just the other side of a hedge!!  It seemed to be far noisier than it's ever been, which really did spoil our enjoyment particularly as it was a lovely sunny day and we had to go in and close the door!  This lasted until about 8.30 in the evening, so be warned!!  Otherwise, still a great site, with efficient fast tracking on arrival from very organised wardens.  Pity about the noise.

Rowntree Park - Fantastic Facilities & Great Location to explore York

Just returned from a 5 night stay, we were met on arrival and were settled on site in minutes by the wardens. We received great advice re shops and attractions in the vicinity. The site itself is compact but all pitches were spacious and well kept, and like all sites you get what you pay for with the larger pitches for caravans with awnings if they are available at time of booking. We just loved this location and walked into York with ease, visited Castle Howard just a short car journey away and a great day out, unexpectedly the York horse racing was on so we spent a short time there, again just a walk away from this caravan site. The huge play park next door has everything for children so this site is suitable for families too. Thanks to the caravan club and the wardens for once again providing a great service . Great place to stay

This is a lovely site, all hard standing pitches with strips of grass in between. It is all you expect of a CC site, nice pitches, clean toilet blocks, neatly kept and security gates at the rear.  The lady warden I spoke to was extremely helpful and friendly. Due to no fault of ourselves, we were late onto site; and when we phoned the office were told that although there were no late arrivals arrangements, they would wait in the office until we arrived.  We were extremely grateful and I call that excellent customer service. Thank you Rowntree Park.
