Not visited for a while, still as good.
Great for visiting York, lots of places to see in walking distance. The railway museum is worth a visit. The shops accesed from the back gates are handy for food shopping.
Site well looked after, wardens very friendly.
The only down side is the fact that because of its popularity it is booked up well in advance. It is possible in winter to get a pitch in the week and only have to book up the day before which we prefer.
Excellent site
Perfect for visiting Yorkshire's capital city with all that it has to offer and no need to use the car unless you want to go further afield. Local shops accessible on foot through the "Back Gate".with everything you need e.g Sainsburys, Fish & chips, Indian, Chinese, Green grocer etc. Spotless amenities and friendly staff. Can't ask for more!

Convenient and compact
We chose this site primarily because of its closeness to York centre and from this point of view, it is great. Just a short walk takes you anywhere in the city.
It's not the prettiest site we've seen and because of its compactness, some of the pitches require extra care when exiting and we were unable to fairly judge the peace and quiet as they were cutting down trees at the time.
The facilities were clean and in good order and the wardens seemed friendly enough. The biggest problem was the wi-fi which was very erratic. Wi-fi on the Club sites can be hit and miss but this was the worst we had experienced. TV reception was good. There is also a good Indian restaurant close by, along with several other shops to cater for most needs.
Altogether, if you wish to visit York, this site is ideal.
Your winter wardens / Assistants November 9th to January 6th
HI .just to say a big thank you from Gary Anne Paul & Wendy your winter team ,for those who left kind comments and supporting us with the Yorkshire air ambulance raffle over the Christmas and New year period .
we raised £320 so well done and thanks again .
We are off to sunnier climates and hope you continue to enjoy Rowntree Park.
Rowntree Site.
Just Got back from York,we had winds that rocked the caravan, rain we thought might float the caravan and frost that made it nigh on possible to get the car doors open.Would we go back DEFINITLY.The wardens Ann,Gary,Wendy and Paul where absolutely brilliant even though the had given their Christmas holidays up.We also like the new way of booking in and keeping the road outside clear. What we did not like was other members turning up at 11.30 and then complaining because the offices were locked, and where were the wardens cleaning the toilets etc for their benefit.I think anyone turning up that early should be turned around and told to come back at the correct time or ask someone what the time is as apparently the can't tell the time.
Recommend Without Reservation
First let me say a big thank you to the staff on site for all their hard work and customer focus which makes it a must visit site. They are always there if you need help and advice. Special thanks to Anne Spencer who although very busy booking 60+ vans in, took time to resolve a personal issue I had.
This site is perfection in every way if your visiting York.
Highly recommended..
I only wish it was bigger.
Good site, some odd ways of working
I can really add no more to what others have said about this site. It's in an excellent location for walking into York, although not the most attractive of sites (a sea of gravel, in fact - due to flooding issues).
That said, there are some strange practices here.
I agree wholeheartedly with the idea of a strict 11:15 departure on last day and no arrivals before 12 noon. If only wardens on other sites would enforce this the same way as here.
But coupled with that - why close the Gents toilet from 10:15 to 11:15am every morning?? This is just the time when a lot of people want to go there - as proven by the queue waiting for it to re-open.
And if you are leaving that day, it's nice to be able to pay a 'last visit' before setting off and to wash your hands after packing up the caravan. Not possible here!
Just move the cleaning time to the afternoon - so much more convenient.
The other thing is the placing of cones on pitches. This has reduced since the wardens were changed mid season, but is still very prevalent.
Apparently the reason is that they cone off pitches for anyone who puts on their booking that their caravan is over a certain length. Unfortunately, many who go on these reserved pitches have shorter caravans than ours!
The couple who ran the site last year were really easy going. They just didn't partake in these silly practices and somehow or other, everyone fitted on their pitch (if you cannot get a typical twin axle onto any of the pitches here, you really shouldn't be towing one!).
But despite these niggles, we really enjoyed it here....again!
