Good site, some odd ways of working

I can really add no more to what others have said about this site. It's in an excellent location for walking into York, although not the most attractive of sites (a sea of gravel, in fact - due to flooding issues). That said, there are some strange practices here. I agree wholeheartedly with the idea of a strict 11:15 departure on last day and no arrivals before 12 noon. If only wardens on other sites would enforce this the same way as here. But coupled with that - why close the Gents toilet from 10:15 to 11:15am every morning?? This is just the time when a lot of people want to go there - as proven by the queue waiting for it to re-open. And if you are leaving that day, it's nice to be able to pay a 'last visit' before setting off and to wash your hands after packing up the caravan. Not possible here! Just move the cleaning time to the afternoon - so much more convenient. The other thing is the placing of cones on pitches. This has reduced since the wardens were changed mid season, but is still very prevalent. Apparently the reason is that they cone off pitches for anyone who puts on their booking that their caravan is over a certain length. Unfortunately, many who go on these reserved pitches have shorter caravans than ours! The couple who ran the site last year were really easy going. They just didn't partake in these silly practices and somehow or other, everyone fitted on their pitch (if you cannot get a typical twin axle onto any of the pitches here, you really shouldn't be towing one!). But despite these niggles, we really enjoyed it here....again!

Christmas Shopping In York

Just back from this excellent site in the middle of York. Easy walking to the middle of York for all the High Street stores, pubs and cafes, and if you walk 10 minutes or so in the opposite direction you can find Waitrose and other big supermarkets. The excellent wardens keep the site in tip top condition and there was always plenty of hot water in the showers. The new booking in system is great and gets you on your pitch very swiftly. However, why do some members totally disregard the 12.00 arrival time which is clearly stated in the site book and e-mail confirmations. Whilst we were there motorhomes and caravans were turning up well before this time and we noticed on 5/12 that there was a couple of motorhomes and one caravan which turned up well before 11.30 and then joined by others before 12.00 resulting in Terry Avenue being blocked in both directions. There are plenty of opportunities to park up on the outskirts of York to ensure that members do not turn up early. You do not need to be a rocket scientist to judge how long it takes to get to the site from the bypass. Having said all that we will be back in December 2017 for Christmas shopping again.

Excellent

Cracking site next to river, 15mins walk to city centre and easy access avoiding most of city traffic. Very busy site and the friendly wardens work very hard keeping everyone happy and the site and facilities cleans and tidy. Take a short walk to Bishopsgate Road at back of the site, a hidden gem, delightful shops, cafes and restaurants. Sadly yet not surprising lots of club members turning up too early and queuing on narrow approach road and frequent speeding on site. Some of us just don't understand!

Excellent site

Been to this York site many times and it is always excellent. However on this visit we where surprised by how easy the new check-in process worked. A warden at the barrier checked our name, told us the pitch type we had booked and waved us through to find a pitch. Once pitched we then went to the office to pay. This avoided the usual long line of vans waiting at the gate blocking the access road.

Excellent location

Stayed for 3 frosty cold nights at the end of November. No problem as the Showers and Toilet block are nicely heated and kept very clean. Just a short walk along the river to the centre of York. Enjoyed so much we have booked another 3 nights early January.

A Great Location

Recently stayed here for three nights. Perfect for York city centre. Site is clean and extremely well kept. Busy but very quiet. Lovely, friendly wardens who clearly do a great job. Keep it up. We will be back for another visit if we can get in that is! Thank you for a nice stay.
